08 GT500 upgrade suggestions

I've just recently add a Steeda CAI and Bama tune to my 08 GT500 (which already had a Borla cat back exhaust). I've made some cosmetics changes already, but I'm wondering what my next upgrade should be. I'm considering a 2.80 or 2.65 pulley and 4.10 or 3.73 rear, but was wondering if this was a good idea. Or should i get the Borla headers first? Thoughts?

Yeah, I think all of these mods are a good idea! On a GT500, a Pulley and set of gears are going to make a huge difference. On a supercharged car, I would probably recommend going with a set of 3.73's, 4.10's may be a lot of gear for that particular set up!

I hope this helps your decision. Please let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance in the near future! Our Mustang Experts are here Monday-Friday from 9AM-9PM EST and Saturdays from 9AM-5:30PM EST. If you want to hit them up, their number is 866.727.1266.

I appreciate your response. Funny the its AM getting back to me since I bought most of my upgrades from you.

So I think I'll go with the 3.73 when I'm ready, but should I do the 2.65 or 2.80 pulley? And if I do pulley and gear at the same time, do I only need a new tune from Bama?

Totally agree. I have JLT cai, Metco 2.6 pulley and a dyno tune. Not making as much as I thought it would make. If I could do it again I would go with a more smaller pulley like the 2.59.

Do you get more from a smaller pulley? Why would you want smaller? Pardon my ignorance, I'm learning as I go.

The smaller your pulley is, the more boost (PSI) you make. Which means the more horsepower you make.

Ok bud, thanks for the insight. I'll look and see if I can find a smaller pulley. The smallest one I found on AM is 2.60.

I'm going to the Mustang show in Media, PA next weekend, so I'll be looking for deals and hopefully a dyno.

The smaller the pulley the better chance of belt slip.

Do I need a new belt with a new pulley, or is there a tensioner that can adjust for it?

VMP makes a 2.50 inch pulley. That's what I went with. I also got their pulley removal tool. It works amazing. Really need 2 people for that job. Definitely go with a larger idler pulley. I read somewhere that for every pound of boost u add, u r gonna see around a 10hp gain. Not sure how accurate that is but I'm sure it's fairly close. U can also do a lower pulley swap for a chunk of change. Once u go that far, might wanna think about more efficient cooling. Look in the thread that's called, what mods have u done to your Shelby. It'll give u some really good ideas. After that, gettin it to hook up will be ur next problem.

Everything else on my car has came from AM. They are just that good.

Don't tell me u are suffering from the same addiction we all do. Lol.

They will price match too and give u a 6% discount for being on this forum. They are great.

The VMP site has the pulley and removal tool in a kit. I got crazy boost from it and a wicked SC sound. I get it all through the rpm range now. Even at low rpms. When u get time, google "Justin from VMPS's Shelby". I want that lol.

Have you dynoed it yet???

Op definantly go Vmp for the pulley and the idler pulley (this tightens the belt) and then pick from your choice of a half a dozen good tuners out there but I use bama and am satisfied...

550 rwhp with cai, tune, pulley. Not too shabby

I'm very much suffering from the addiction! LOL

Thats good news about the discount with AM. I'm not sure that I will be doing the replacement myself. All depends on how ballsy I'm feeling.

Thanks again. I've been learning a lot about this stuff and really appreciate your input.

I'm looking all over for this stainless steel VMP 2.5" pulley, and have only found a forum with a pic. Do you know where I can actually buy it?

They stopped making the 2.50 in stainless because the SS would heat and shrink and cause belt slippage. When I ordered mine, that is what I ordered. It came in black, I thought they had sent the wrong one. I actually talked to Justin. He's te one that told me about the issues with the SS one. Just look for the black 2.50, it is proven and I haven't had any issues since I put it in. Other than it was tougher that ba**s to get the OE one off. Just order the black on brother. I got tons of boost out of it (according to my OE boost gauge, it almost pegs it out).

Not yet brother. As soon as the funds are available, it's high on the list. I just gotta find somebody good and close.

Black pulley it is. Thanks for the info.

Do you know if there are good deals at the car shows, or if I'm gonna get the best deal online?

I'm thinkin ur not gonna find too good of deals in swap meet situations. I will say if u go to a huge show, don't impulse buy. Google it on ur phone while ur there and check it out.
