Almost another tire thread

alright I have been searching on this forum and a few others and can not find the answer I think I am asking. So here it is.

I will be needing new rubber sometime next summer. I do like the GY OEM tires in the warm to hot weather but when it gets cold well lets just say it is a good thing I know how to ice skate. I have been thinking of getting a set of all season tires like the Michelin A/S 3's which will allow me to drive it longer into the fall season.
Is anybody running these and how bad are they in the summer heat or fall cold?

They are rated at 186MPH which on the roads I will never get close to but next year I was looking at a few track days so how do they hold in and out of corners?

Should I just stay with Summer tires rated for the car?

Thanks
Mike

I switched to the Michelin A/S and what a great improvement...the car sticks better in cold or warm conditions...I don't remember the speed rating though.

I have a great set of GY oem tires for sale with less than 250 miles if anyone is interested.

I have the as3's on my 2011 GT and they are probably the most well rounded tire I've ever driven on. They are a smooth and quiet riding tire, they have a long tread life, their grip outperforms many summer tires, and on cold and wet days they still offer loads of traction. The only thing I cannot speak about yet is snow, but it's only a matter of time before I do

I think you will give up a lot by going to Michelin A/S 3's, there is a reason GT500's are sold with summer tires. ( Vettes & Vipers also )
Don't judge all summer rubber by what Ford puts on @ the factory.

What other tires will work and not be to hard when the temp drops? I do like the GY on summer days but as the weather turns they really suck.

In third party testing the Michelin as3's outperformed continental dw tires as well as some Goodyear eagle tires, both contis and good years were summer tires and the comparison was done in summer conditions. I'll try to find a link and update this post.

EDIT: it's on thesmokingtire.com I can't seem to get a link on my phone but it handily beat the conti DW, Pirelli pzero, and Bridgestone s-04 pole position. The as3 is an amazing tire in summer and winter

On many sites the MPSS tire seems to be a favorite, it's not an all season tire. Had you considered a 2nd set of wheels with tires for winter driving ? American Muscle offers tire / wheel packages that are pretty reasonable, so do others.
I don't see an all season tire giving you the same level of performance a summer compound tire does.

If I bring one more thing home for this car before I get my 68 coupe done and some more work around the house I won't have a house or car.

The reason I was think this is I don't track the car I use it as a DD and would like to run longer into the fall and sooner in the spring. This year I am storing it for the winter at a friends house while the 68 is in my garage getting work done. Lats year I drove it when ever the weather was nice and no salt.

I looked at the MPPS but they are only rated to 40 also so I don't think I would gain much. Unless they are rated to go into cooler weather and I just missed it.

I am still doing research to see what I want to do. I agree the summer tires in the summer are the way to go. I have a few friends that work at GY and they are telling me they have a tire that may work for me on the way. Now does that mean this year or century I am not sure.

Thanks
Mike

I've been looking at the as3 as well. Although not all summer tires are bad in colder weather. I had not to invos in 30 degree weather and they actually performed pretty good compared to the oem Goodyear tires. Granted it was on a gt and not my gt500.

Put those on my '95 T/A last Summer. Although I never drove the car in the rain, bite on dry pavement was great. They are supposed to be awesome in rain also. They were rated #1 in their category on TireRack.com.
