Funny thing is the Camaro SS 1LE beats the GT350 and the Z51.

Adventure till you drop.
Funny you mention that. We took our Equinox into a local Chevy dealership yesterday for an oil change, and they had 3 'Vette's on the showroom floor. One was a 2LT for about $65,000, one a 3LT for close to $70,000, and then a 3LT ZO6 for $96,000 (!!). All had serious orange peel in the paint to the point that the reflection was not even close to being flat or clear -- some of the worst I've seen on a new car in many years. If I'd ordered one of these, and it came in looking like any of these did, I would have refused to take possession of it.
Chevrolet may have done TOO good a job on the Camaro, as it is going to undercut the price of these oranged peeled over priced examples, and the Camaro is going to be able to perform nearly as well.

That's why I'll stick with my older cars. They might be as fast as the new stuff but I like them more.
Here's the Z if you want to see it. It's an Auto and 3LZ.

Yes, that one has the optional carbon fiber aero package, which the one I saw did not have. I do think that GM has kind of gone off the deep end on pricing for their "flagships". Have you priced a "V" Cadillac lately? Just stupid pricing......and talk about depreciation! You are going to lose $35,000 just putting the key in the ignition for the first time and turning it on....

Yeah, they have to beef up the Vette now. Little brother is pretty much on the same playing field. CTS-Vs are awesome, but you're right they need to be more realistic on their prices.

Yeah, Camaro's are going to eat in the Corvette sales a little, but they're really going to eat in the Mustang (GT350/GT500) sales with that type of performance!

The 2017 Camaro ZL1 will have 640hp & 640 lbs torque. Just 10 lbs shy of the Z06.
Granted its heavier than a Z06, but its also a 4-seater.

I assume base pricing is going to be similar to the 2015 ZL1 at about $56k+.

IE: right in GT350 pricing category, but it should be significantly faster with all the extra hp at about the same weight or lighter!!!

I might be leaving this forum soon for a Camaro forum!! Just kidding that's complete blasphemy. I'm really going to leave this forum to go back to the Porsche forums!

Why buy a 2017 Camaro ZL1??

To be fair... if the GT350 had a supercharger it would put out the following

Power
• 808 bhp @ 7,800 rpm
• 657 lb-ft torque @ 4,600 rpm

Performance
• 0-60 mph: 3.3 sec.
• ¼ mile: 10.8 @ 133 mph

That CRUSHES the Camaro ZL1 hands down. I bought the GT350 because it's the best handling, fastest naturally aspirated beast on the road today. Just ask the guy in the CTS-V that I smoked this past weekend, he paid a lot more than I did for my GT350 with the track package... long live the Shelby legend!

Can you supercharge the 5.2L Voodoo? Flat plane crank and lot's of compression. I looked but can't find anything saying whether it can be supercharged or not.

Yuppers...answers that question doesn't it. Have to watch them for a while to see how well it holds together. It sure is fast. I can't imagine a supercharged motor winding up to 8250rpm. That has got to be a ****load of fun.

And if the Camaro had XYZ it would make 1,000 hp!!! Can't get in to what ifs.

The 2 cars stock for stock, which are priced nearly exactly the same and are meant to be direct competitors.
In fact, I don't think there are any other 2 cars out there that are more direct competitors year after year for decades than Camaro vs. Mustang.

I'm shopping for my next track car.

After tracking my Porsche several times and the bills started adding up, I decided to get a "cheap" mustang (if you call a $46k Mustang GT Prem. Convertible cheap).

Then I found out that I can't run it on the track b/c of convertible with no roll bar, only AFTER I spent a lot of money getting it track ready. (added Brembos, 2-piece rotors on all 4 corners, several light weight mods, alum. 1-pc driveshaft, etc.)

I was getting seriously close to buying a GT350 with the prices coming down to MSRP on most of them lately. But now I think I'm just going to wait & get a Camaro ZL1. Even though I prefer the look of the Mustang.

I've driven the new Z06 on the track, and if the ZL1 performs ANYTHING like it, it will be a no brainer from a performance stand point.

You bought a vert for a track car and didn't know you needed minimum of a rollbar to race it on a track ? Brutal ! Love the verts, but they're just not the most suitable car for that sort of stuff

If you want a track car just find a used 2011-12 GT or a Boss for 20-30k throw about 5k or so of suspension mods underneath of it and you'll have a great track car for half the price of a ZL-1 or GT 350

First and foremost when I say tracking my car, I always mean road course tracks.
If I was talking about 1/4 miles, I'd say I drag racing my car (or going to a drag stip, not "tracking")

Anyway, I'm coming from tracking my Cayman S with the PCA Club. And none of the Porsche's had roll bars. Boxsters have a little integrated hump behind the seats that counts for them, and 911's have a pop up device if the car start to roll. So I never thought... oh look at those convertibles with roll bars... b/c none of them had them!

I thought you just needed the roll cage for racing or for driving with the convertible top down.

Back to GT350's.... I've been seeing chassis #'s in the high 3,000's. So if I'm seeing 3,700 & 3,800's on the lot for sale already, they must be in to 4,000+ cars by now. And that's just the GT350's "Gxxxx" chassis #'s, the R's have a separate "R0xxx" chassis #.

I also noticed several GT350R's are in transit to dealers right now. They must have done a little production run on them.

Looks like things are right on pace for their 5,500+- production run. 2-3 more months at about 500 units / month. Funny how many dealers are holding on to their early chassis number cars.

And I've been seeing a lot of used GT350's coming up for sale now with low miles. I know 2 of them were upgrading to GT350R's. I'm guessing people are upgrading to GT350R's or maybe 2017 GT350's where you can get a track pack and navigation, etc... (better customization)

Supply is no longer a problem. I keep seeing the ebay cars come down like $1,000 each week when they relist their cars. $68, $67, $66, $65, $64... now many are around $63-60k and still not selling!

Chassis #'s are getting up there.

And prices still going down. I'm seeing cars list for $60k or less now.
And one of the dealers that I've been in contact with a lot called & offered me a tech pack one for $55k.

Also dealers are putting in their orders for the 2017's.

A new blue is available, I believe its the "Liquid Blue" from the auto show cars:

A few options will become standard on the cars, like Magnetic shocks & oil coolers. ie: no more 49k base GT350's.

Best part, now you'll be able to configure them however you want by selecting multiple different packages, not just the big Track or Tech packages.

For example, I wanted a car with the extra oil/trans coolers, Recaro's and spoiler from the Track pack, but I also wanted Navigation. And blue is my favorite color, so I think I'm going to sit on the sidelines and wait for a 2017 to see if I can get exactly what I want.

You are correct on the market up on the Shelby Gt350's.
I've been trying to buy one also & all dealers I spoke to want redeclious market up's over MSRP.
Especially on the 350 R Model as high as 60K over MSRP.
So looks like I just may buy a Zo6 CR7 Edition for that kind of money.
I've been buying Fords since 1969 & never owned a GM product.
Looks like Ford motor co., could address these market up prices if they wanted to .
Just my thoughts.
I do own a 2014 Shelby Gt500 & will sell it or trade it in soon.

Randy,
A little internet searching could easily net you a new GT 350 (perhaps even the "R") at or near MSRP. You might have to travel a bit to go get it, but what a GREAT trip home, right?
My dealer here in town only wanted $5,000 over MSRP which, all things considered, I thought was reasonable.

i would travel if I could buy one for 5K over & even order one.
A 2017 Shelby GT350 R unit only.
IF your dealer wants to sell me one let me know.
I would trade my 2014 GT500 on one with 1600 miles on it.

For a cross country deal like this one --- it might be best if you sold your car yourself, I am sure. Hard to seal a deal without seeing the trade-in in person, driving it, etc.
I am sure with only 1,600 miles on it, yours is perfect.......still.
If my guy can get one, and they are not asking too much over MSRP for it -- I'll back out of this and put you in touch with him directly.

Yes I woud trade my unit in if we can come to a price that I can live with.
I refuse to pay dealers hughe ADM's on these units.
They are not that rare.
I will consider a Corvete Zo6 CR7 Edition for that kind of money these dealers are asking.
I've had many Mustangs & been a Loyal Ford customer since 1969.
A few Mustangs I've had;1996 Cobra,1997 Cobra 1998 Cobra,2000 Lightning.2000 CobraR #235.2003 S281Cobra #97,2007 Shelby GT500 Modfied by Saleen,Featured in 5.0 called[Luck-One]Look it up & read the article,Another 2007 Shelby GT500,2009 Shelby GT500 & now 2014 Shelby GT500 .

Yeah, you gotta really want it lol. I guess if I had the money (comfortably saving and paying bills), I'd probably pay whatever for one. I don't see me getting that "comfortable" lol.
