Interesting if true, that Ford will offer a supercharged 5.0 in the upcoming GT 500 instead of a higher HP version of the Voodoo from the 350. Supercharging the GT 350 motor must not be viable, as others have guessed:
All speculation as far as I'm concerned. Personally I think if they go to the 5.0 with IRS etc for a "more rounded" GT500, they should drop Shelby and make it an SVT Cobra.
And to appease the fanboys it's gotta make over 707 to unseat the Hellcat. No way it's gonna make 680 like I saw from motor trend. Hell that's not even 20 more than the '13.
That's not really much of a power bump if any from the Trinity or even any 07-12 with a TVS on it.
That said... when you are in the 600-700 range... kinda like... well its not going to be feasible to get much more without going crazy CRAZY like the Demon and requiring race gas or E85 or something for the top race tune.
Exactly. I am barely squeaking by running good, consistent 91 pump gas around 650 whp. Torco is a must for the track and nights in Mexico. E85 is probably gonna have to happen.
If they do increase output like the Demon it's gonna either be de-tuned to account for when some dumba** puts 87 in it or have stage tunes like the Demon.
Yeah official numbers are out. Camaro still offers the best performance but you cannot see out of the ****ing thing. Mustang probaby is the best driver. Challenger looks the best x1000 and the Scat pack with the 8 speed auto is badass.
Ford needs to go with larger displacement for sure, and a supercharger would fit with the current gt500 trend. Something has to differentiate the gt500 from other mustangs and be more than 650hp camaro and hellcat. Demon is not really a daily driver and probably doesn't handle well anywhere but at drag strip. Also, ford needs to keep price lower than competitors, not that hard. With the advent of the mega speed, paddle shift autos, manuals could go by the wayside, i hate to say.
Agreed, not to mention all the dudes who buy cars like this to compensate for small peen syndrome and wrap the damn things around a telephone pole leaving the dealership because the fastest thing they've ever driven is a 300hp Maxima or something.
Wish that there would be a requirement to go to a driving school/certification for buying a car with more power than X or Y. Hell roll it into the financing cost of the vehicle when bought or something...
The thing with the new mustang with the Roush supercharger all the power is very manageable. I was very surprised that when you put your foot down, as long as you have traction control on, it is not hard at all, it just pulls like a beast.
As one person put it that drove a GT500, he said he felt like the car was always out to kill him.
The thing I see right now is Chrysler has the Hellcat, Chevy has the ZL1, and Ford has the GT350 The GT350 just cannot compete with either of those supercharged cars, so to be close you have to at least get something that is supercharged to compete. If Ford want's to compete in the market they have to do something other than the GT350, Fortunately Roush has stepped up and delivered a great product with their Stage 3, or even the ability to install the SC on any GT model.
What the future holds for Roush cars is up in the air, will it be like a late 60's Yenko Camaro where they are off the charts for prices, or will they be priced just above a GT?
From what I understand the 2018 5.0L engine will be more similar to the GT350 5.2L engine, what that will do for supercharging I am not sure.
No issue, like I said "Fortunately Roush has stepped up and delivered a great product with their Stage 3, or even the ability to install the SC on any GT model."
It just surprises me that Ford does not offer one without an "aftermarket" add on. It may be intentional to help Roush.
