Your not going to believe this guys!! But I reinstalled the stock wastegate and low and behold, I got to 22psi of boost! LOL!! I'm so stoked!!

Voltwings, explain what's going on?

Don't need the 12psi wastegate!

Oh yeah!! That 22psi was in 4th gear! That's the 1/4 mile gear! All you got to do is ride it out from there!

Free HP! I'm loving it!

Hey guys! You know how I did it? What I did was lessen the pre-load on the actuator spring!! Yep, I took off any prr-load!

Stock from the factory has a spring pre-load! Its indicated on the actuator shaft with a whit chalk mark! I loosened the but on the shaft and didn't pre-load the spring! The end result was a gain of 2psi without the ECU pulling spark or opening up the bypass valve to release the extra pressure!

So that's it guys! Thats the secret!!

And you know what else? I didn't ride it out further cause I was moving pretty good! If I would have been on a 1/4 mile track, I'm not sure how much more boost I have gained by removing the pre-load!

So all you guys with stock Ecoboost go and take the wastegate off. Loosen the not and screw the actuator fitting to just enough where there is no spring pressure! This will allow you to increase boost without the ECU stopping you!

LOL! Is this s beautiful day or what!!!

That's counter intuitive, loosening the preload will make the boost less responsive and reduce the overall boost control capability.

Again though, changing the wastegate on these cars is arbitrary, the computer controls the boost curve, changing the wastegate does nothing.

Also ... arent you stock? How in the world are you at 300 whp with 0 mods ...

Hey guys, I really did beat Ford and their ECU at its own game! Pulling spark and blowing off boost pressure to keep you at 20psi!

The stock factory actuator is all you need! Sorry TurboSmart! But I got to tell the truth about this!!

Because I gained 2psi of boost! Typically 1psi of boost is worth 20whp! Since its a little cold outside I picked up an extra 4psi which equates to 44whp! I beat the computer Voltwings!

There is no way I could have gotten to 22psi because the ECI would have pulled spark at 21psi! Understand?

Voltwings I really did beat it! The computer is supposed to open the wastegate and hold at 20psi! It was asleep and I ran 22psi without a blow off or spark ******! The stick factory spring a ton of pre-load! To take it off you have to use a screwdriver and pry on the wastegate!

OK! I'll go make another run Voltwings just for you!

I'll see if it goes to 23psi! But that's it , cause I'll be moving too fast as it is!

So just for our beloved Voltwings, I'll have another run at it! If I get to 23psi I'm going to piss on myself! That would take me to 380HP Flywheel and 323whp! Stand by!

Hey Voltwings! Explain to the audience how I beat the ECU! It should start lessening spark way before 21psi! More like 20.5psi or less! The wastegate should be wide open to prevent over boosting! This not the case! Removing the pre-load HSS tricked the computer to ignore the 2psi over boost!

Explain Voltwings!

Gotta clear this up! I often confuse the HP and TQ!

I'm at 354HP and 301whp!

That's 310 + 44HP=354x .15=301whp!!

Previously at 262whp So 301-262= 39whp gain!

So basically picked up 40whp!

Yeah, 1 psi does not = 20 whp, not until you're on a very large turbo, but you do you.

That's better than a 2018 Ecoboost!

The track will make the final decision! Looking more like March if they are opened!

I should safely be in 13.xx territory for sure now!

I'll stab 22psi again tomorrow morning and hold down a little bit longer to see if it give up 23psi! I'll let you all know in the morning!

Then why bother getting a bigger turbo if 1 psi is always 20 whp?

Hey Voltwings, it also HSS slot to do with the stick compression ratio of the engine!

Thus far the 2.3L Ecoboost engine is the only one to be st 9.5:1 while all the others are at 10.0:1! With the Coyote being the only one at 11.0:1 compression ratio! They really catered to the GT crowd on that coyote!

So your right in a sense, all boost is not equal! Anywhere from 14 to 20psi based on engine compression ratio!

Vortech's V2 setup comes with a 10psi pulley! The stock HP rating of the 4.0 V6 is 210HP. With 10psi it makes 350HP and 298whp! So you can see that is 14whp per psi of boost! Its also at 9.5:1 like the 2.3L!

So let's say for the sake of argument I'm making 14whp per psi!
310HP @ 20psi and 348HP @ 22psi!

Its only a 6HP difference from 354HP!

So let's use between 20 an 14whp per psi! Sound good or fair Voltwings!?

Because bigger turbos have a large compressor island! The bigger the turbo, the larger compressor map! The ideal situation I'd this!

I bought a Holset Diesel turbo off of eBay for my 4.0L V6! The turbo was designed for an 8.0L diesel engine! So now you can see it was perfect for my 4.0 cause all the cold boost it created at the very center of the compressor map! At 4.0L's that's half of 8.0L! Its a perfect match! Smaller turbos have a smaller map and must be factory matched to an engine like the Ecoboost turbo! Its a perfect match for the 2.3L but it just needs a larger intercooler after let's say 25psi! But it works good at 20psi!

A larger turbo will allow you to run less boost with the same CFM rating as a smaller turbo! All we're talking about is CFM! This is a measurement of air which flows through the motor! When you buy an intercooler, ask for its CFM rating! Its easy! 900cfm is equal to 900HP!! 700cfm is good for 700HP!

A larger turbo can flow more CFM with less boost pressure!

What you literally just said is that 1 psi is not always 20 whp.

To be clear Voltwings! A larger turbo can run more CFM at a lower boost level and the boost will be colder! Thus make more HP per psi between the 14 and 20whp designation! 14 to 20 will never change! 20whp is the max with good efficiency! The weather can help this! Colder weather can increase the efficiency from 14 towards 20whp!

The stock 2.3L turbo has better efficiency with more than 20psi been fed to it! It makes power up to 525whp but needs a large intercooler to cool the boost! Mist guys are afraid to pump 35psi to the motor for no good reason! Its a built from the bottom up to handle high boost! Guys buy larger turbos to keep the boost level low but the CFM rating high!
