Boss add on's

New to the forum and just recently purchased a 2013 Boss. I was interested in any info from people who have modified their Boss and what works the best. I plan on replacing the stock shifter with either a Barton or MGW but have no idea where to go from there.

My Boss will not see much, if any, track time but I would like to try and get as close to 500 RWHP as I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I appreciate the reply Rapinator. So you would start with cams and what "tune" would you recommend if any?

Either a custom dyno tune by a reputable shop. Maybe you are close to rev auto?

Or email tune wise, especially with the cams I would go with shaun at AED.

Stage 3 comps. With limiters on the exhaust cam, full exhaust no cats ( kooks or American racing )
47lb injectors, boost a pump and e85. Spinning to 8k will get you close to your 500.
Port the boss manifold, and you will see 500.

What I know

I just bought a 2013 BOSS and was lied to about the mods. I know they are there, just only know what I can see. I was told heads and cams, no proof of cams and I haven't investigated heads yet. I do have the JLT Carbon hydro cold air, long tube headers, kooks high flow cats, qtp for the side dumps, magnafolw out the back, and a sct tuner with a 93 street cam tune, 93 JLT emission tune, and a 93 street tune. All custom tunes. No canned tunes. Really ticks me off, but it will smoke the tires at 120 in 4th. Sounds like an old muscle car. I am wondering what the difference is between the factory h pipe and an x pipe would be? Also it cams hard at idle after it warms up. It doesn't cam at all until it is warmed up. It starts camming like I flipped a switch. If I had time I'd take the motor apart and see what's in there...

Does it have a trackey? Does it tell you on the dash when the trackey is activated?

Has trackey but makes no difference. I have 2 new sets of tires I run. Pirelli po and kook Ventus ... The good one... How do I confirm what cams are in it? I got a lead from a call I just missed from a previous owner. Maybe I'll not seem such the idiot in a few hours! Thanks everyone!Click image for larger version

Only way to look and see if it has real cams is opening other up. The caming sound is just a tune.

Once they tuned it you kind of lose the track key function. That's what was explained to me by one of the local tuners that is probably why it feels no different with the two keys. I do know with track key the Lopey idle will not enable until the car warms up so maybe you still have it and don't realize the difference.

It cams during warm up, just not super noticeable. It is without a doubt much faster than a track key. I've had toys with huge cams well over 1000hp that ran on methanol. But that's a different game. Soon as I get my proof of what was done I'll post it and then the build begins!!!

It needs better tires without a doubt. Bc it won't be spinning tires at 120 with a good tire promise that

Well for 1 a coyote isn't going to "cam" with real cams either. UNLESS other work is done.

it all depends on your application and goals. You can't just throw a cam or cams in a car and expect gains. It needs to go with your setup.

NA,blower, nitrous all require a special cam.

For instance on a NA coyote you can pick up 20-50hp from a cam swap, depending on how radical you get with it

3 more questions lmao... How much gain for my car? How much$$? And what would I have to do to the engine to handle more power?

With parts and labor your looking at about $3,000 + and probably about 30-40 hp with a off the shelf cam.
Won't sound different though, unless you delete the VCT and phasers and install lockouts. Which adds more $

And build the bottom end (Pistons, rods) and head studs

When my buddy and I open our shop, the going shop rate we will charge will be $95-105 a hour.

So if it doesn't have the aleged cams in it, which ones do you have or recommend and what does your car put out? Does that motor require being pulled for me to install cams? I have the full exhaust, a tuner, and a JLT cold air. Still has stock throttle body and maf is molded into JLT pipe and I don't know if it's stock maf. As well, when I go back to this dealership with flames in my eyes because they claim $9200 in the motor and I don't think it's there what approach should I take since they told me it was there. A tuner, ARH headers, JLT, kooks, and a lowering kit from ford doesn't add up to $9200 to me. They jacked the price for this stuff and have not produced the proof. I want in the car what I was told was in the car. I usually take the man on fire approach. Cops... I want to keep my car, I just want to force them to put in it what they said was there or buy me the parts. Ideas?

Just take a picture of the engine bay and we can tell you if those headers are on it. That's probably 3200 ish for parts and then probably another 1500 for labor? If it does have cams that number is realistic.

It has headers. I'll send a pic when the sun comes up. I don't know how one of my posts keeps getting reposted... I will admit in a heartbeat that you are more knowledgeable on this topic, however, please don't discount me as one of those guys who has stuff done... I build everything racing from ground up drag cars to mud trucks to boats... All of it. I'm just used to working with schematics. Usually ones I dreamed up and cadded out. To me I don't have anything cool if anyone else can replicate my stuff. I am also a toolmaker. I can make my own cam shafts from a billet of steel or make my own gears and axles etc from the steel of my choice to the hardness I desire (heat treat). Didn't mean that to sound dirty... Not trying to brag... Point is if you have an idea since your obviously a mechanic and want to re engineer or proto type something let's help each other out. I don't think the cams are there. I'll find out today. I like building race motors to the insane level, but I'm not a fan of throwing on a blower and calling her done. Too easy and anyone can do that. I want bullet proof power that no one else can make and throw away the drawings. Thanks man!

If you can do all of this what are you worried about? Only way to prove it is open it up!
