1997 Cobra

Hey guys, I have the chance to pick up a Red 97 Cobra Coupe for 4000 with 117k on it. Good price? Let me know. Oh and what mods should I go with first. It's bone stock.

Any idea for mods? I think it has some suspension work done. But it's not lowered.

Sounds like it may be a good deal but you have to see it to be sure all cars sound good on paper until you see them in person they could be a total mess.

Re: 1997 Cobra

Then it sounds like a fair deal from what you are saying.
I would say do a nice exhaust system first to get it to sound a bit better and wake it up a little also.

If that is the case a nice set of headers and mid pipe would be nice on it also a set of gears in the rear will help for sure also and wont cost you a ton either.

Re: 1997 Cobra

well i thought it was a good deal for one too lol. im a mechanic at a ford dealership and i bought a green 1997 cobra for 5 grand with 130000 miles on it. well the car has been down more than it has been running. bunch of stuff just keeps going wrong. my advice would be just be ready to rebuild the engine if you plan on hot rodding it. mine lasted about 10 races before it spun a rod bearing and collapesed several lifters. the car is a fun and beautiful car to drive just be careful with it. by the way this is my first post in ME.

Re: 1997 Cobra

If he's a ford master tech, I wouldn't believe that a vacuum leak is the only problem....because that's an easy fix that they would have addressed.

My 97 Cobra had full bolt ons w/ a 140K mile shortblock and ran like a champ to 7K RPM's. The shortblock actually handled 10 lbs. of boost for awhile as well....it didn't let go until I sold it to my friend and he ran it lean

lol, that'll do it. I typically beat on mine for a short period of time, when I really want to.....and all other driving is just normal, boring driving.
