Whine on highway

I have searched all over and cant find any info. On top of the pop that I am going to look into tomorrow I have a whine that sounds like its coming from my factory rear speakers. I only notice it when I am driving down the highway at higher speeds. I thought maybe it was the rear end but with the windows down doing 80 on the interstate I dont hear anything outside the car. Has anyone had the same problem?
I will probably try unpluging the rear speakers and see if that helps tomorrow on the way to the shop to check out my rear end for the pop.

pull the fuse for the stereo. that should stop the speakers from operating. have someone ride in the back seat. maybe they can locate it while you drive

Ill try that. I turned the radio off while driving and it still did it. But the speakers still have power and would have the noise even though the radio is off correct? I just hope its not anything major.

thats right. yours is a cobra. i forgot. you have the shaker system. the amps probably do stay on. you should be able to find a fuse for it still if you have your manual.

Re: Whine on highway

Ok so I changed the oil and stuff today. After that I checked the slack in the drive shaft / rear end. The drive shaft will move 7/16". So Monday I will be bringing it to a shop to get a est. Then call the people I bought it from and ask if they want to pay for it or go to court because in Lousiana there is a lemon law and since I called them today and told them about the problem I have 30 to get a quote.

Re: Whine on highway

Ill get them to do that when I bring it to the shop Monday. I dont want to mess with it and them say that I did something to mess it up. Ill get everything put in a letter from the shop I bring it to and get with the people I bought it from. Since I notified them withing 72 hours of me buying it I am still protected by the Louisiana Lemon Law.

Re: Whine on highway

Would incorrect backlash in my gears cause the drive shaft to have 7/16" slack in it? or is the pop and my problem else where. We are going to check the gears this evening to see if we can stop the whine but I was wondering if it was gonna stop the pop and play in the ds.

Also if anyone knows could they let me know the correct backlash for 03 Cobra. I think is .005 but im not sure.

Yes backlash can cause it to have that much play. But it probably already trashed the gears. I'm not sure. .005 sounds low to me but im not sure. I think it's around .007 . I'll check

Might just be the type of reared he installed. You will probably be fine. Mine doesn't whine until I'm at around 110mph (on the track of course lol) but by then it's all wind and tire noise too lol

Re: Whine on highway

The radio and all is factory. But I can deal with the whine as long as its not the gears. Im more concerned about the pop. We will check the gear back last since that can cause it.

Re: Whine on highway

Well the guy from the shop told me he couldnt tell me whats wrong with my car because he isnt familiar with IRS. He said its built for racing. So I called a friend of mine and he said the popping sound could be the cv shaft in the rear end. Any of yall had that problem in yalls Cobras?

We are all still clue less about the whining noise.... I have tried everything except taking the radio fuse out which I will do next.

I forgot you had IRS. Yes defiantly could be a halfshaft. You can check those easily yourself.

Well I have the same whine in my cobra and it turned out to be worn gears in the rearend only guna cost me about 500 to replace em but worth gettin rid of the whine. I thought it was my fuel pump at first but that got replaced when I got all the work done to the car. Good luck
