Cobra Pricing Opinions...

Okay so recently my buddy was given a 2004 Competition Orange Cobra.....now he wants to sell it to pay off some debts since he nor his family have any money into this car besides filling it up with gas once....

Now he called me and told me if I wanted it he'd find out how much to sell it for and cut me a deal...in order for me to buy it though I'd have to sell my Cobra...my question for y'all is..........how much are each worth....

My Cobra has 76,000 miles on it it's a 1996 convertible all stock except flowmasters....the only issue is a little chip off the interior passenger side door panel...other than that it's flawless...

His Cobra is all stock with 26,000 miles on it a convertible and the driver seat has a rip in it the motor on the top is weak on one side and it has quite a few paint chips.......

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

Comp orange are rare,I would say $21-23k if posted online if that gives you a idea.

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

Dude, there were only 72 Comp Orange verts made in 04...that's pretty rare.

I'd try and get him down as low as possible, and scoop it up. Even with the minor flaws, they can be fixed, and you'd have one sweet ride.

I'd guess your current 96 is worth ~9...? KBB it and see what it books for to get a general idea...then do some searching for 96 Cobra verts in your area, see what they're asking for.

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

yeah see I kind of built up this competition orange and vert thing for him so he knows just how rare the car is.....so he knows he can get what he wants for it.....but I don't care about the rip in the seat that can be fixed and it would be great to have a termi....

Thanks!

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

I've purchased and sold an 03, 97, and 96 in the past year....I'd say his is worth $22ish. I'd say yours is worth $7-$9k depending on just how good of shape it's in.

If you want an 03/04, you could probably get a nice one for a good bit less than his "buddy deal is going to be", because they seem to get a LOT cheaper around 50K miles.

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

With the miles for the year and the Cobra "value", the car's probably worth mid 20's.

If you got it for 18-20k Id say you got a good deal. Sell your Cobra for 8-9 and finance 10-12k...

What's the issue with the engine?

There has also been a increase in Terminators for sale due to the new 5.0s.

Yeah they do get cheaper around that point BUT there are NO Cobras around here especially not for sell.....I think since the collector value would go down because of the shape of some stuff a person like me would not like...for example the wheels are terrible(forgot to mention that)

I'm not planning on financing any I have the money cash to cover the rest if I sell my Cobra....if I can get the title to the Cobra since it's technically my mom's.....

what engine issue?!?!?

mine hada sensor of some sort go bad on it a couple months ago is all...

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

There's not an issue with it....what happened is this guy the family knows is a very wealthy doctor and in 2003/04 he wanted a car...all he wanted was a 6spd convertible with a back seat...and the cobra was pretty much his ponly otiotn...he drove it for a couple years and then put it in storage where it's been for awhile.....and he decided he didn't want it anymore so he gave it to my buddy....my buddy's family has some unresolved debt they want to take care of and since they got the car for free they're just going to sell it.....hopefully to me

I was referring to this...sounded like there was an engine issue of some sort (I was confused with the wording).

Yah I believe you're right...that sounds like what he's talking about...thanks.

There was an engine tick issue (heads) with the cobras...not sure how many had the issue in 04...maybe a Cobra owner will chime in.

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

comp orange 04 cobras are higher up in the price due to the color is more rare, especially in a vert.

with 26k miles if its in perfect condition (miles do not always equal condition...) and if it has no damage etc etc all in good shape and not super modded then its probably worth 22-26k depending on who is looking. I think 26k is high but might could be sold for that if they held out long enough and the buyer wanted it bad enough.

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

That Terminator will go for $26+ easy being that its one of the rarest colors ever made. There where only 355 Sonic Blue drop tops like mine but the price on them stayed mid to high 20s. I say if you can get it for $23 or less its a hell of a deal! Good luck man! It will be the best Mustang decision you ever made! Comp. Orange is badass color too!

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

Well yeah the color is great that it's so rare but somebody that knows that and cares about that like I do is also going to care about EVERY little detail...the tarnishing on the wheels, the ripped seats, the paint chips a crack in the rear brake bar..I mean nothing big or anything but the wheels will need to be replaced if it's purchased by anybody that cares greatly about the collectivity of the vehicle like I do and they'll want to knock off some money on the price......regardless it's still in the works...thanks guys!

Re: Cobra Pricing Opinions...

After recapping all what is wrong with that vehicle, I think you should be able to get it for $20k or less. He is your friend and only cars that have been taken care of hold their value the best. This particular case sounds like the owner just drove it and didn't care that it was rare.

Take pictures and let us know how you come out on this!! Good luck and I hope you get the Terminator!

so how can a car have so few miles but have so many issues? bad paint on the front of 03/04s is common (easy to chip)

My 2 cents, I wouldn't pay over 16k for the car. You will need to spend a minimum of 6k getting it back into perfect shape.

yea, even with low miles it will need to be fixed up to repair the damage and some of those parts are NOT cheap
