Steeda Tri ax short shifter install.....

Gonna install a steeda tri ax short throw in my 01 cobra in the morning when I get off work. Any heads up on how the shifter assy disassembles? Any pointers, tips, and advance for smooth install would be kick ***. Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Pretty simple and easy. Just remove the shift knob then the shift boot pulls up and that is held down by two clips don't break them they hold the boot down. Then there are four 8mm bolts that hold down a sound deafening pad pull that up then there are four 13mm bolts that hold the actual shifter down then that just pulls up and you repeat all those steps in reverse to put it back together. Should take about 15 minutes

Re: Steeda Tri ax short shifter install.....

its actually rather easy, if you would take pics of the process I will create an article for the how to and put your name on it for submission of images.

take the knob off

slowly pull the shifter boot plastic thing up and off (4 clips hold it on and those like to pop off... makes for rattles on reinstall). Check that you have all metal clips on the plastic tabs, if you dont look for it as it may have fallen off

Next you will see 4 bolts at each corner of the metal ring/rubber surround. Those are a pita to get off without a swivel socket. Take those off and then slowly slide it forward and up and wiggle it out after taking the handle off. You may want to take the handle off first to get more access.

Then you see 4 bolts holding the shifter on. Remove those and then you can put the handle back on the shifter and use it as leverage to wiggle the shifter side to side and front to back to pop it off. Use a razor blade to clean off the RTV gasket, dont let any fall into the trans tunnel, if you do clean it out fully.

Now is a GREAT time to change trans fluid as you can pour it in the trans opening where the shifter was FYI

use new RTV or a shifter gasket (shifter gaskets are GREAT and help noise so I would recommend that as the steeda shifter is not as well made as MGW etc and makes more noise.

with RTV on transmission (around the inside of the bolt holes as well) or gasket reinstall carfully making sure not to cross thread the shifter bolts, snug down, I would not install the shifter stop bolts at all but thats your choice.

Reverse process and your done.

Do you have to go from under the vehicle? I've read some installation manuals and some say you need the car on a lift or on jackstands.
