speedometer

My speed o reader is off and kicks in at certain times, which is usually about 30. It'll stay reading as long as I dont drop below 30ish. Plus the faster I go the more its off by. Dodge caliber marked 70mph mine 90. Caliber marked 100 mine 130mph. What could it be?

When I put 4.10 in my 2000 GT I had to change the speedo gear in the tranny.

If that is what it is, which I'm pretty sure it is, get 2 or 3 of them because there plastic and the teeth wear out easy. There probably about 5 bucks each.

Cheap plastic parts I dont know why they make em. Rather spend a few more faces for an aluminum one. Then ill go ahead and put my money onto that one.

time to find out....

jack up the car in the rear and get under it...take a marker and make a dash on the driveshaft...now spin the rear tire one full rotation...as you spin the tire by hand count how many times the mark reaches the point it started...you'll know pretty fast what gears you have back there..

3 1/4 turns = 3.27s
3 1/2 turns = 3.55s
3 3/4 turns = 3.73s
4ish turns = 4.10s

so on and so forth...

A little device that hooks up to the tranny I believe and it converts the speed readings for when u change gears or wheel sizes but u have to know what gears u have in your car in order to make it work properly cuz when u instal it u have to put in your old gears size and your new gear Size so that the device knows what it needs to convert

My mistake it was my 95 GT put 4.10s in that needed a speedo gear. My 2000 I never touched the gears for that reason. They all run together after 4 of them.

Never heard of a speedcal. I have a Diablosport predator, and although I have not changed the dif gears, the predator can re-program the cars computer to show the correct speed on the odo after such alterations.

Google Diablosport. I think it is www.Diablosport.com and is sold by a number of retailers. It is a handheld tool that plugs into the vehicles ecu (under dash).
