This is what I found. " At the flywheel, the Cobra is rated at a hefty 305 horsepower, while it is closer to about 260-275 horsepower at the wheel." But what's the difference ?

hp is less at the wheel than at the flywheel because of drive train loss. so 305 is motor. 265 is at the wheel after the power has transfered through clutch/converter, trans, rear end etc. u can usually factor in 15-20% drive train loss depending on different factors including auto, manual.

i dont remember the exact numbers but it might be something like manual is 17% and auto is 20%. these numbers are just an average standard set by nhra(maybe) and can vary some from vehicle to vehicle

drive train loss is the the loss of power from being transfered from the engine to the tires moving through all the drive train system.

So when someone ask about how much horsepower a car has, do most people just go with what the HP at fly wheel puts out

if its been modded and been on a dyno they use wheel(rwhp) hp. if its stock then most likely they are giving u flywheel (fwhp).

ive heard of that drive train loss before somewhere else, do you have an estimate on how much hp does the 99-02 cobra has after the train loss?

just some simple math

auto. stock fwhp x .20 = drivetrain loss

manual. stock fwhp x .17 = drivetrain loss
