Short throw shifter

Well, after much research and consideration, I have ordered a MGW short throw shifter for my 2002 Cobra. In the process I discovered that the transmission is a Tremec T-45, not a TR-3650 !! It appears that Ford may have used up their left stock of T-45s and moved them off shore to Australia.

Post any differences you can tell between old and new shifter.

MGW emailed me to say they have to make more parts for their T-45 shifters, so my order will be delayed by two weeks. Then, it's anyone's guess how long it will take for an international order to arrive. I will post up a review when installed - but don't wait up for it; could be a month or more away :-s

Yep 2002. Only found in Australia. Google "2002 Cobra" and select the Wikipedia site.

For starters, I am in Australia....
Ford Australia imported around 200 2001-2002 new Mustang Cobras. They were converted to right hand drive and complianced to Aussie standards. They sold for about $90,000 (out of my reach), but I bought mine 5 years ago for about half the new price.

Re: Short throw shifter

very interesting seeing the interior and it all being reversed, very interesting that the Trans is a T-45.... what is the build date, was it early or late in the year?

Trust me, it's worth the wait. I am extremely impressed improvement over the factory shifter. I was just at a party and I had a friend pull me into a conversation where he was telling a group of guys how amazing my MGW was, and how it was the nicest quality short shifter he had ever seen.

Fully agree with this guy. I installed my MGW short throw in my 01 cobra about a month ago and now that it's past the break in phase it's awesome. Shifts with the flick of my fingers or wrist and you will NOT miss 3rd with this thing. I got the race shift knob with the cobra logo on the top and it looks and functions great!

Re: Short throw shifter

I have a 02' GT and 03' Cobra. Both cars have the MGW shifter. It's like night and day's difference from a stock set up. You'll love it! I know I do!

I've driven worse, but if there's that much difference, I'm glad I got one.

I installed the MGW shifter over couple of evenings and took the Cobra for a run last night. What an amazing difference. Shifts are tight and well defined and as stated in an earlier post on this thread with a flick of the wrist. AWESOME. I did have some installation problems though: when the right hand drive conversion was done the right front foot well was expanded , therefore the engine was moved slightly to the left. This resulted in the two bolts on the top left of the shifter being obscured by the trans tunnel. Grrr. But nothing a little cutting an creative use of tools couldn't fix.
