Gears

Dont the 98 cobra have the same rear end setup as the GT? So if Im going to purchase a set of 373 gears from ford racing then they would work in a gt or cobra right?

Re: Gears

yea its an 8.8 in the GT and Cobra. The 99 got the IRS rear but even then the gears I believe work there as its an 8.8 center. May want to rebuild the Tlok clutches while its out (cheap/easy)

Thats what I thought AM has it listed as (GT) but I looked on another site and it has them listed as 87 and above. The car only has 72000 miles on it and the two owners didnt run it hard and it was mainly highway miles.

Re: Gears

They both have an 8.8 inch rear end so any gear set you pick up for the 8.8 inch is compatible. I just had 3.90s installed in my 01 and what a difference! Be sure to pick up the diff rebuild kit as well when you get your gears.

Yeah I figured they were the same, when I was on the AM site they had94-04 (GT) next the for racing gears I wanted. Well if you look further down it says it will fit cobra also. It was just confusing the way they had it labeled I guess but im going with 373 by FR. They car really is going to get raced but I want it to be there just in case I need it.

If you weren't planning fi I would recommend 4.30 gears. Those cars love to rev.

I'm looking to move up from my 3.73 to 3.90

Re: Gears

well when I was at the track I had 410 gears with my old cams and I was running out of power before I would reach the end of the track. I might stick 390's in the cobra. The only thing I dont like about going with another brand of gear other then FR you have to go through the steps of shimming it. With FR gears I just shim it to whatever comes off the stock gears.

Eh... I would always check backlash on any set of gears regardless of brand

I have before, don't trust myself though lol. If you're comfortable with it we might have to work something out when you make it back
