Whine in the Tranny?

Hey guys, as most of you know, I just got a 2001 Cobra. There seems to be a whine coming from the tranny and I was just wondering if this was normal. It increases with acceleration. And the friend I bought it off of says it's no big deal.

Anybody notice this in theirs?

Does it only do it on acceleration or does it stop when you let off

It's pretty bad all throughout. Somebody told me it could be from a previous owner driving it and keeping his hand on the shifter. Would that make sense?

I had the same problem with my old Nissan. It turned out I had very little fluid in the transmission.

Btw, I ran with that sound getting progressively louder over 3,000 miles till finally I pulled the drain plug and about a cup of what looked like liquid metal poured out of the drain. I filled it up with some gear oil and Lucas hopping that I didn't kill my transmission. I went about a week and then it blew a hole out of the side of the transmission the size of a golf ball.

I've always used Lucas on that car. But it was sitting for a few years and when my mustang got hit I had to blow the dust off the Nissan and use it as a DD. it used to be my drift car so that transmission had been through hell. After I swapped it, I was able to pull the inner shaft out about 3 inches and it was hella loose. I imagine it broke a hit the inside wall of the transmission.

Ahhh well maybe the hell and back driving had to do something with it. Dam and if only these things could tell us what's wrong, tranies engines etc,, life would be so much easier.

I had the same prob on mine. Had a friend that was a mechanic look at it and he found that the tail shaft bearing was bad and that was how it was loosing fluid
