went drag racing this past sat.....

Hey whats up. took my 01 Cobra to the track here in Bowling Green for test & tune. My mom and I took turns running it.

Was wondering if any of you guys knew of any thing I could remove, take off, etc to drop weight. Also, I'm running street tires, so what press would be best to race with? and how long of a burn out would be best? ......Yes, I'm well aware DOTs would be prime, those are coming in due time, just have to work with what I've got at the moment. 3rd, I have a 3200 stall, what would be best to launch at?

anywho, look forward to hearing what You guys have to share.

What did you run? As for weight removal, the rear seats are probably the single biggest thing you can take out...

First thing I would do is either the FTBR kit for the IRS to firm it up or swap to a solid rear axle. Suspension is going to lower your ETs more than anything. Also J-mod the 4R trans if you haven't already. Programming optimal shift points or swapping to a full manual valve body helps 1/4 times too.

That's about what I expected for an auto swapped na cobra. On street tires, you really don't need to lower the pressure. I've run at 22 lbs and it was the same as at 30ish. Not even a tenth of a second difference, but the lower pressure didn't feel as sweet at higher speed. My Mach 1 5 speed runs a 13.4 @103 at 5200'. Intake tune midpipe, catback, shifter car on summer radials. I think with slicks I could maybe find the 12s. But it's a street car with suspension set up for auto X more than drag racing.

Scotty, whats the FTBR kit? Now, I'm more inclined to buying some shocks and springs, what set up should I go after? J-mod? I've had the shift press. increased.

Bluedude, I've got M/T E/T streets on the agenda for this summer for the cobra. just have to wait for'em. hopefully I can jump on'em sometime during the summer.

He's referring to the full tilt boogy racing kits. Its better bushings for the suspension. I ran slower when I tried weight reduction. I removed the rear seat, spare tire and jack. With the IRS weight reduction hurts it on stock suspension. I'd invest in some radials on a cheap set of rims, and suspension mods.

FTBR=Full Tilt Boogie Racing and their kit is around $700 for all Delrin and aluminum bushings to make the IRS not suck.

J-mod is "jerry's mod" aka Jerry Wroblewski who was one of the original designers of the 4R70w for Ford. Basically you remove a few springs to firm up the shifts and you drill out certain holes in the valve body from the stock size to a size bigger. This increases shift speed/performance and also increases overall transmission longevity. Get on youtube and look up "j-mod tccoa", it should be a long video and the first result.

With our motors you won't see much gain na. Now if you have nitrous, turbo or blower then you can see significant gains. Throw a 100 hit of nos on it for the track and call it a day. Will be alot of fun. They now how have a plate kit for our motors
