screwed up my decklid blackout

I put my new own blackout decklid on this weekend. With the 4 center holes lined up it seemed impossible to get it misaligned. Wrong. When I stuck the two sided tape the left side was 1/16 off. There was no nudging the tape even after heating it with a blow dryer. Any suggestions? I know the dealer will bend me over to fix it..... I feel like a donkey

Re: screwed up my decklid blackout

you could try soaking the tape in goof off, goo gone, body solvent, or maybe bug and tar remover

and if you have to a plastic razor blade.

Fishing line works well but you want be careful and mask the surrounding areas to avoid further damage

I'm in favor or the fishing line and a 3m adhesive removal disc. Get yourself some new 3m tape and redo. One way that I put parts on to ensure alignment is to set the part in place without removing adhesive and use blue painters tape to get it where you want it (set it like a hinge from top of decklid to the part). Then peel the adhesive off and press in place.

I let it sit in the hot sun and I was able to gently peel it back and straighten it. Thanks for all the advice. It's sweet now.

Re: screwed up my decklid blackout

I was going to suggest a heat gun and fishing line also but sounds like you have it under control, good deal.
