When should I wax my car? I've had it for about 2 months now, and I've heard different opinions on this. Some people wait 3 months or more while others do it right away. Does the car come with wax out of the factory/dealer? I assumed it did because of how the water beads up on the paint, but I want to make sure.

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else, I tried searching with no luck.

Also, a separate irrelevant question. My other car (mazda3) developed a tiny spot of rust from a chip in the paint. What should I do to remove this and protect that area from further rust?

Re: First Wax

paint is cured from the factory should be just fine

for rust you can sand the rust (if you can get the rust out) then use touch up paint. If you cant sand the rust out you can buy paint that kills rust on contact then paint over the top of that to match the paint.

Re: First Wax

np, if it keeps you up at night wait another month~ its not like it has to have wax right away.

I waxed mine within four three months of owning mine. But I'm a freak about it. If I do it I know for sure it is protected. I do a wax twice a year once in the fall and them spring.

Just take it to a shop and have them deal with the rust a little more money. But piece of mind and it looks right. IMO

You dont have to wait to wax it. And for the rust, i say bring it to a body shop and have them check it out. Shouldnt be too expensive

Re: First Wax

Waxing, depends on what type of wax you use. The high end waxs very greatly on times between waxing. I only use a pure "Brazilian carnauba wax" on my car which lets me wax it when ever I want since it can be layerd giving a deeper wet look each coat you put on. Also, you are going to want to "clay bar" your car at least 2 times a year. You will know when its time to clay your car by rubbing your hand over the paint after washing it and if you feel a "grit" its time to clay the car. You can also put your hand in a plastic bag and rub it on your paint which will help you feel any grit.

Re: First Wax

Anyone just use a "spray on" wax, like Meguirs or another brand instead of all out waxing? Any negatives in it?

Technically you get best results when you "spray on" a towel we used it at the body shop
