My new Mustang side swiped

So I had to take my son to get minor surgery in Charlotte, NC yesterday. I parked my car (which I just bought brand new a few months ago) in the parking lot and 4-5 hours later I went to pick it up. Somebody had either tried to park or left the parking spot on the driver's side and scratched my car pretty good. It is more than a nice buff can fix, and it is even slight dented. These are not the best pics, but they were taking with my phone.

I made a report with the hospital, the police department, and my insurance (GEICO). Most likely im going to have to pay the $500 deductible because nobody took responsibility for it and the hospital might not help out by telling me who it was even though they have survailance cameras. I was quoted $1,000 to get the door and fender taken off, bondo filled (for the dent and scratch), repainted, and re-cleared.

Now that you know the story, my question is:

I called Ford and I asked how much for the fender and the door (just the shell), and they said $1,000. I much rather buy the parts, spend a little extra cash to get them painted, and put them on myself. So that said, will there be a difference in shade? The car is garage stored and is brand new pretty much. Also, what do you guys thing about doing that instead of having the car handled by random people and having it "fixed"?

The new spray might look a little more fresh after but color sand it hit it with some compound n buff it while it's on your pony it's probably best if you get the body shop to do it they have to buff it anyways might as well have them do it all

Yeah, I definitely wasn't planning on painting myself, I'm going to pay to have the parts painted.

The buffing though it will look more new so it has to get color sanded and buffed to Match your color they color sand and buff already so might as well let them color match it

Oh ok. I don't know that much about paint but I get what you mean. What do you think about replacing the damaged body parts instead of getting them fixed?

Re: My new Mustang side swiped

Dont ever drive it again.... Is the dent that bad because it looks like those scuff marks will come right off with a little grease.

Haha, that's actually the way I feel about it, I just want to park it and just admire it lol. They aren't just scuff marks though, it's almost like someone took a knife to it.

Have you tried using any compound on it at all yet?

Lol, I'm sure the car looks untouched but it's definitely not the same.

Honestly ur better off fixing it but if u chose to get new parts then let the body shop handle all of it n keep the replacement parts as back up or buy them put them on then send to the body shop

Re: My new Mustang side swiped

I would take it to reputable body shop. I think most body shops today use Bondo as a last resort They will most likely use Painless Dent Removal and spot paint the area and blend it all to match as Drodriguez2009 said. A good Body shop should make it look like nothing happened.

Yeah, they said they would use bondo because the dent is very fine, it is almost as thick as the scratch so it makes sense.

That sucks a$$!!...even though your car is new bondo and paint might be a better deal...getting new fenders to line up is sometimes a f@#kin pain!...and every show car with a good paint job has a lil bondo!...

Re: My new Mustang side swiped

All they need is a tag #. Hopefully you will find the guy. My cousin had someone hit her and run off. Destroyed the bumper and the trunk and tail light assemblies. The cops decided to look around her neighbor hood, it was the guy across the street.
