Re: How To: Plasti Dip Your Car (In Depth, 6 pages worth of Microsoft Word)

Hey guys, Fonzie owner of DipYourCar.com

Josh has shared pics and updates of his project with me and my team over the past several weeks. I'm not here to do anything but follow along and enjoy Josh's thread. Sick project - and as I told him, I plan on featuring his Mustang on DipYourCar.com. I'd prefer to respect Josh's thread - so if you do have any dipping questions, you can email me directly at Fonzie@dipyourcar.com.

Nice work Josh, the designs on the wheels and hood are insane.

Alright so I was gonna try and plastidip my rims today but remembered that there was a locking lug nut on the left drivers side. I also remembered that I was not given a key to said nut when I purchased my mustang. Times like this just make me want to scream outloud one simple word. ****!!!!!! Any ways.... Anybody know how to get these off without the key?

Only way I know will waste a perfectly good socket....

Find a socket that will just barely not fit over it....then very carefully pound it on with a hammer....and use a ratchet to remove...

This may not be the **best** answer..

****. I don't think I have one. I've tried to hammer the sockets at my disposal on there and nothing.

---------- Post added at 01:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:47 PM ----------

Read online about something called an impact socket? I've personally never heard of one. Think it would do the trick? And is it available at autozone?

All a impact socket is, is a hardened regular socket that resist breakage under extreme torque...and yes they are avail there... They are a full black color

Re: How To: Plasti Dip Your Car (In Depth, 6 pages worth of Microsoft Word)

OHHHH BOY DO I HAVE A SURPRISE IN STOOOORE FOR EVERYONE!!! Finally So with every problem there is a solution. one of the best things I was ever taught was "9 times out of 10 you will find a solution to a problem. Don't look at it from the angle of you finding the solution 90% of the time, but instead focus on being smarter than 10% of the problem."

With that being said we all know that I came across a big problem with the permanent marker. Well Not to go graphic on anyone, but when the hiker was trapped and had no way out, he took the only route left... cutting off his arm. Well I had reached the point where permanent marker vs clear coat, the winner 100% of the time was clear coat. So instead of putting 90% of myself into pretending there was a clear coat out there I could concoct, or find... I looked at the problem, realized it won the battle, and found a different method.

What method are you asking... well thats part of the fun now isnt it! All I can say is hold onto your asses ladies and gents, if you thought I was different before, you have no idea what I am capable of. I will eventually get myself out there, my name will be known before I die, and I am hoping its ideas like this that will help me along the way!

God I cant wait to show this car!

I am trying to set up a method where I can stream a 30 second live video, one time as a teaser. Once I get that figured out I will announce a date that I will launch the video. Again, be prepared for something completely bassackwards than what you have seen so far.

Stripes... gone!
wheels... changed!
hood... new!

dont freak out. guys, trust me... I wont disappoint!

Savannah, I have you to thank for this... all of this. You seriously make seeing all of this in my head so damn easy!

I'm stoked, although I love those rims how they were. i'm sure you're gonna make this car pop like nothing before if you're that amped up over it.

Re: How To: Plasti Dip Your Car (In Depth, 6 pages worth of Microsoft Word)

I plasti dipped my rims yesterday and it ended up not so smooth like all of your work it has a texture to it and it very noticeable up close. i was wondering how i could fix that? did i just not start with heavy enough coats or could i put heavy coats on top to smooth it out? I start with a light coat and it looks like water drops on their before it dried is that how its supposed to look?

Peel off and start again. It does bead but if you wipe ur rims down with mineral spirits toget any wax or anything off tge rims. Bonds better. Then just spray untill covered basically. Apply coats quickly and allow about a minute between coats. Then get any tape off quick before it bonds to the tape.

Yes that's way too long. I spray for a couple minutes then I'm done. You have to get the tape you masked with off while it's still wet or it ends up bonding to the tape. If you spray fresh dip onto dried it beads like crazy. Best to spray it on thick and let it dry. With badges you can even just soak it down and let it run for a minute. Then when its done dripping get the masking off and let it dry. The stuff dries tight into the nooks and crannies of everything.

You say it's too long but with my rims I did one light coat, let it dry 10 mins, then every coat after was heavy for four coats with 30 mins drying between. Mine came out smooth and even. And then I just used a straight edge razor lightly pressed around the edges by tape. Turned out well, IMO.
