Re: Plasti Dipped New Edge GIMME YO HELP! lol

uugghh.. today was an adventure in itself. last night was phase one of my going away shindigs and it was safe to say I was still drunk when I went into work this morning lol. all in all no progress change yet, but I will have room for all the pictures that have been entered so far. Remember, i still have the front bumper, rear trunk, rear bumper and interior to do. Plus a couple wheels too.

He has a thread explaining it all called How to plastic dip you car in length. I would just post the link but I do t know how from the app. If you use the forum search you will find it. It is under the mustang appearance and detailing section I believe.

Ah sharpie! got it! tyvm
Do you clearcoat it after finished like on the rims and everything? Seems like sharpie might run eventually if not sealed on, sorry for the twenty questions but I'm very interested

this is where I am at a snag. Every clearcoat that I have read about makes the permanent marker bleed and just dissolve into a blob. I am terribly nervous but will get it right. I dont give up.

If I were you I'd spray some item with plasti dip, draw on it, then trying different clears. I would cry if you messed up your work up to this point.

I have tried the following methods with 4 different clear coats

Regular Coats - FAIL
light mist layers - FAIL
watered down finger nail polish - FAIL
Hairspray - FAIL
paper sealer (meant for charcoal drawings) - FAIL

I am not one to give up, but the odds are coming against me pretty quick.

Let me ask my dad in the morning. Painting cars and paint in general is his game. He's one of the best around. Let's see of he can come up with something that can work.

Are you using an oil based sharpie? Have you tried gel ink?

Find out where to get this josh...clear nitrocellulose lacquer...I read it's not supposed to make sharpie bleed...but test it first.

Another thing I found is to use sharpie paint marker or industrial strength sharpie....guy said he used krylon clear glaze and misted from about two feet away multiple times until he had a decent coat and then was able to clear it directly without it running...

Talked to my dad. He said any clear he's ever seen/used would not work. The solvent would be too strong and it'd lift it. You'll have to do some research.

Worst case scenario:
1. Lay paper over the whole thing trace the black with a pen
2. Clean all the sharpie off and tape off the whole hood
3. lay the paper back in place then trace the image with a good razor blade or several depending on how quickly the blades dull
4. Be sure to cut through the tape below as well as the paper
5. Carefully peel up the the tape that should be black and spray the hood with more plasti dip
6. Peel off the rest of the tape and clear coat and enjoy

It would really suck but it would work

haha Don't give up. I thought of the clear auto bras, but you would need solution to apply it. You may have to use regular paint.

Anyway, I'll send you a PM later on as I would like to write an article on this if you ever finish this up. If you would like for it to be featured on our blog and if none of my colleges have beat me to the punch already.

lol brent and I have talked about this already and I am determined. I will win. I am not posting anything up until either the car is done, or the car is peeled and revealing nothing but the shiny underbelly known as the stock paint lol.

I am going off of the Plastidip Graffiti Radar!

questions I will still be glad to answer, I will still be posting on the forum, but picture wise... sorry all I have to build some anticipation!

Wait!!! Don't peel it!!

This would be a s*** ton of work but wat if you got a really thin brush and painted over all of the sharpie, this should protect it from the clear coat if you do it right. You could probably even just use black nail polish or something. Just make sure all marker is covered, ya kno.

I hope this helps a little, I really wanted to see the graffiti finished.

they ideas all rock, but I have spots on this graffiti that are literally ball point pen tip thickness... it makes it terribly difficult.
