Well, as soon as I get in car I smell it. Especially when it sits overnight... How do I locate it?

Re: Smell!!

That smell is usually a Tom cat sprayed the seat... at least that is where they spray on construction equipment...
Use your nose to locate... lol am not kidding...

Had a Passat for a little while, stopped off for milk, put it on the passenger floor and didnt realize till I got home that the gallon had broken open. Yeah, never did get that smell out, despite all my efforts. Good luck!

Re: Smell!!

You might even check the cowl vent. i have seen tomcats spray the base of a windshield, and every time air enters the interior you get the smell.

Cats are the reason God invented the .22 rifle.....

Re: Smell!!

It's the vent in front of the windshield, where the wipers are. That is where your car's ventilation system gets outside air. I don't know if the New Edge cars have a cabin filter like the '05 and up Mustangs....anybody know?

Re: Smell!!

Then you will definitely want to change the cabin air filter.

Got my seats taken out and cleaned. Carpet as well. Found out a rat had been in the car. Well smell is still there.. Could still be a cat. Could the air filter be the reason it still stinks??

Yes, the filter could be distributing the smell like a car freshener.

Re: Smell!!

Check the headliner, too. My '84 Mustang GT sat for a year with the windows down, (before I bought it) and a cat gave birth on the rear seat. Somehow the stink permeated the headliner. I sprayed it with Febreeze, then I cleaned it with a diluted Woolite and water in a spray bottle. I blotted it with towels and let it dry in the hot Bakersfield sun, and I had no stinky thereafter.
Also, check with your local car dealer's service department. Some cars get a musty, mildew smell in the A/C defroster system when condensation pools and mildews. They have a solution that kills the mildew.
