So I got my estimate on Saturday, about $1050 worth of damage. Ugh, luckily my deductible is only $250 though. Right now the shop doing the work is 3 weeks behind and they said it should take about a week to do the work once they have the car. Also my insurance covers free rental cars

My dang coffee almost came through my nose when I saw what they were charging! I'm sure that's normal these days. It's been a long time since I've been to a body shop. Glad your keeping your stang, Grabber!

Yea, body shops are expensive though, probably because they charge so much for labor, and they know it'll get paid since insurance is paying for it, they'll just charge whatever they want maybe?

One thing that's funny is that the body shop said they will probably have to replace the wheel (which I disagree with, it should be easily repaintble) and they wanna charge $386 for it, I can buy the exact same from from LRS for $250, but really it should only be about and $80 charge to repaint anyways. I may take it elsewhere to have the work done and have the insurance company just cut me the check

Or, you could let them replace it and keep the old one as a full size spare?

So now the insurance company is coming back and saying that it is collision damage, not vandalism, which is clearly not the case, and my deductible has doubled to $500

I wanna pull my friggin hair out

WTF! I could never work for an insurance company. IMO, this is just their way of getting some of that money back for fixing your ride. :smdh:

I have higher than minimum insurance, a decent bit higher, I don't have moving violations, I've only ever had one other claim and that's because someone hit my car in a parking lot, I always pay on time. And they are just like any other insurance company, not wanting to help out

To hell with that. You can replace the wheel for $250. And no body shop would charge over $300 to paint the fender. I'd rather spend the money myself than give it to the insurance company. The advantage IMO is the old rim you could repaint yourself find a extra tire and always have a full size spare, just incase. Good luck brother.

I tell my wife, that's why actuaries exist. All the insurance policies are setup to do one thing, make money. I know that sounds pessimistic, but doesn't always seem like we get the very least for what we pay for these days?

I hope, when its all done, the fact that your ride is at 100%, you'll feel better about all this.

Latest update:

Called USAA, they're reviewing the decision made by the body shop to see if it actually is collision related or not (I highly doubt it is, my basic understanding of physics and logic tells me it's not.) I'm having the insurance check cut directly to me and I will take it elsewhere, my dad knows of a much less expensive shop that still does great work anyways

Ok, more ranting!!

Just got off the phone with the insurance company and I tell them that it looks like someone ran into my car skateboarding. They tell me that a person running into my car with a skateboard is still collision... What a friggin joke. So looks like I'm f'ed in the A and I gotta pay the $500 deductible instead of $250. No final decision made yet but this crap is driving me crazy.

If they decide this as collision instead of comprehensive then their president will probably be getting a letter. A calm, professional, but very stern letter that points out the flaws in their company and company policy.

Maybe they are following the industry standard but this is USAA and I expect more out of them and believe they should go above and beyond their competition

Grabber, I just dropped USAA a few months ago after using them for over 20 years. They use to be top of the line and nobody could beat them from insurance, loans and checking & savings.

They have lost interest in maintaining the quality standard for service members and their families.

So check around and get quotes from other companies that will treat you with respect. Im now with State Farm for all my insurance needs and save $45.00 a month for the same coverage I had with USAA.

Yea thanks for the words of encouragement maldog. Yea definitely been through worse though lol.

Interesting that you dropped them. It seems like lately I've had quite a few issues with them from billing to this claim. My fiancées brother works for geico now so I may try to see if I can get hooked up through them.

Just gotta wait to do financing on my house first. I've had to put a lot of stuff off because of this house... Stupid mortgages lol

I should open up my own insurance company called Your Money. It works like a bank. You put money in and when you need it its there, but we pass as an insurance company, for legal purposes ÷]

So to follow up, I got the damage fixed and hood repainted (tons of rock chips) for the amount of my insurance check. Paint match is perfect!

Bad news is the body shop told me that they could tell the rear bumper cover had been taken off before, I have never taken it off, and said its pretty likely the dealer had replaced the bumper cover themselves because they may have scratched it, and I can tell there is a shade difference but I always though it was because the paint on the plastic vs the metal. Either way the body shop did a great job!
