Interior L.E.D's

I'm sure this is quite newbish and I accept the laughter at my expense. I installed some LEDs under my dash wired into the cigarette lighter. the LEDs use .24amps reattached the battery and they turned on. When I flipped the switch to turn them off I blew a the fuse which is a 20 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse and the same thing happens. I removed the switch and turned them on and off by touching the positive wires together and it works fine. Does this mean I need a fuse with a higher amp rating? I believe the one I have now is a 10 amp

Sorry again!

---------- Post added at 06:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:45 PM ----------

I meant switch not fuse

A higher amp fuse 25 or 30 amp might work but the 10 will definitely blow because it is smaller then the original 20 amp (hope that made sense)

Mine are under the dash and I just wanted to toggle it with a switch they work fine without the switch but no way to turn them off. I am pretty sure it is the switch because its only rated for 10 amps and its a 20 amp fuse

I have lights on my rear view but I'd rather have them be on while doors are shut to

Well I feel dumb. The problem was I had the negative also on the switch. I should have just grounded it directly to the cigarette lighter. They work fine now

They are actually a brighter green then these pics show. Also ignore the crappy switch placement! I plan on cutting a hole and inserting it next to the convertible top switch

I've been planning the same. Sharing my idea: autozone has a 12" strip that has the lights that run center to end, reddish amber colored. Problem is how to have it turn on only when the door opens etc. any ideas?

Did you just use that door swith to turn them on and off and as a power source or did you wire a separate wire for power?

I ran them to the interior lights. If the doors are open or my map light are on, my LEDs are on

Would you be able to further explain in detail what you had to do to make this work? Because Since I got the mustang I wanted to do this.. But only if I could get a switch to turn them on an off whenever wanted.( what did you remove? Tools used?)

Would really appreciate it!

Where did you tap into the dome light? Roof, fuse box?
