What does cut and buff mean?

I painted my car with a flat clear and on top of the can it says do not cut and buff I know what buff means but cut? Like sanding?

Cutting compound. Used to go through large blemishes in a finish when using a orbital.

Wet sand yes using a super fine grit paper.

Then use a really good / polish and random orbital.

Then wax...

The only thing I found online about flat clear and fixing orange peel was to adjust the spray nozzle to eliminate it... I suspect wet sanding will make it more gloss... Just not sure. May want to practice on some spare metal... Paint, clear just like you did. Then experiment wet sanding/polishing.
