Stained glass?

So I have to get a new interior dome light cover for my '87. Now I got this idea of making a stained glass insert. I don't think it would be that hard, just cut out the middle of the new light cover and insert the stained glass part. The reason I am doing that is my interior dome light covers tabs are broken off so it won't stay in place.
