Leather seat options

Has anyone ever replaced seat covers with leather pull-offs. If so, what kind of problems do they present?

Has anyone ever mounted power seats in a non-Premium model? Are the power wires already there and simply not used or do you have to run your own power?

I'm just trying to weigh a few options here. I have also found a set of new covers from LeatherSeats.com in OKC for $749.00 and could have them installed locally. Anyone familiar with them?

I just got a quote of $2,500.00 for new leather seat covers from a local trim shop. They order them from California. I could do that myself and possibly save some bucks. All in all, seems a bit much compared to what I have paid before. Thanks in advance.

eBay for leather seat covers is a better idea. Either that or buy racing seats that are leather, as they would be probably of nicer quality leather and less expensive than ford seats.

Also, base cars don't have the connectors for the power seats but you can splice into the power from other areas

Thanks ZLwhat. E-Bay is where I found the pull-off seat covers I mentioned. They have them Buy-It-Now for $495 to $999, depending on what they came out of. There are a few I liked. Just not sure if that is the way to go.

Well my gt premium is a 2012 and my seats are leather and they have already began gettin little creases and things from every day use. There are no other signs of wear so I would like to think they would last a long time. However, I have corbeau custom racing seats in my lightning and they are suede with leather inserts. They are far more comfortable than my 5.0s seats and they are built way better. I spent $699 per seat with every option including 5 point harnesses and another $200 for the brackets.

Hit up the roush ebay store and buy leather takeoffs from a 2012-2014 model for $350. Its a no brainer. I installed mine myself and it wasn't that bad, just time consuming. If you have the tilt headrests in front you will need to source some new leather covers for those because the ones that come in the roush kit dont fit. I found some locally for cheap as well. Very first thing I did to my car.

Thanks, they look great. That's what I had in mind, just don't know what I'm doing. How did it affect the air bags?

the airbag thing is on the leather seats so i'm guessing they are unaffected. i left them in and i can only assume the GT premium that these came out of had side airbags in the seat as well

I've got an '11 V6 base model with seat airbags. I'm not sure what has to be disconnected and then reconnected. I found a set of take-offs on e-bay that are reasonable. They are for a '12 so the headrests are different but I can live with cloth headrests.

There's a 2 connections under each seat. I'm 99% sure the airbag is in the same place so I wouldn't worry about it. All you do is disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and wait a min or two, then unbolt the seats and disconnect the wires. There's a very helpful video I followed here. The only hurdle I encountered was I broke a plastic tab when taking off the panel on the passenger seat. I had to buy a new one from the dealer. Be careful when popping those off.

Which headrests do you have?

I have the ones like in the video bit the covers I'm looking at are for a '12-'14 which are shorter and rounder.

Yeah after looking at the video I can see the ones are different than on the Roush eBay store. I knew mine were different when I got them so I had to source the covers I needed which I also found on eBay for rather cheap. Then I found them on craigslist for even cheaper but it was already too late at that point. You'll be able to find them eventually i'm sure, it just takes a little patience. If you really want to splurge you could order the adjustable headrests with leather from AM. I have the tilting ones that came from the factory and love them.

Tilting Mustang Headrest Black Vinyl - Pair (10-14 All) 43-78810 - Free Shipping!

You could also order different foam for your current headrests from your dealer to match the leather covers you receive.

I bid on a set out of a GT500 this morning that are black with red stripes. Those will match my car real nice. They have my style of headrest. Got my fingers crossed.

It's really not that bad, it just takes time. Your fingers will be a little sore afterwards but its totally worth it. I can't think of any other car where you can source leather seats this cheap and have them installed within a day doing it yourself.

Also, don't even bother re-using or buying new hog rings, just use zip ties and snip them off. So much easier and the same effect.

Actually I think the V6 is a prettier car than the GT (I still like the '11 grill better than the '13). Of course the power is sunstantially better with the GT but the V6 gets more attention and compliments. When I give rides to non-Mustang types, they are so impressed and cannot believe its a V6.

The red/black covers arrived yesterday. They are beautiful and should really look good in the car. Unfortunately I still have to wait two more weeks before the trim shop can get to them. Oh well, what's a few more days? I've owned the car three years next week.

It's really a simple job to do yourself Frank. Took me a day and a few beers and a lot of breaks. I guess if your a busy guy then let someone else do it though.

Not busy...old and lazy. I've gotten to the point where the doing is not as much fun as the enjoying, though the beer part sounds good. LOL.

My car is a base model with cloth seats. I'm moving up to leather.

$450.00, worth every cent. Went to a local trim shop and got it back in four hours.
