Potential rust problems

Recently cleaning the doors (2013 V6), the plastic drain covers at the bottom of the doors fell out. In the process of reinstalling noted that the door skin that raps around the door and up again is very poorly folded around the door at the bottom. In fact it allows a great place to hold water and salt in the winter.
Has anyone else noted this?
Are the 2009-2013 doors prone to rusting?
I don't think I will reinstall the covers as without I think the water will drain better.
Although I will not be driving mine during the winter I am thinking of rust spraying along the door bottom as a preventative measure.

Any other common rust potentials seen?

Thanks...............

I saw this question asked somewhere else out here, and the answer was that it is by design. It allows the water to drain.
