Removing / Replacing Emblems

I want to remove some emblems on my GT to paint. I have found a lot of posts on how to remove the emblems, but can't find anything on how to replace it. I assume I will use a double sided tape, but since it will not be die cut like the original, how important is it to fill the entire back? Also, should anything else be done to keep water from getting behind the emblem?

Once you get the emblems off, be very careful to get every speck of the old adhesive cleaned off the emblems and the car. Clean the backs of the emblems to make sure there's no paint or old adhesive.

Then, get the 3M tape that best fills up the back of the emblems. Clean the backs of the emblems with rubbing alcohol, blow-dry the backs with a hair dryer and apply the tape with firm pressure. Clean the emblem area on the car with the alcohol, and blow it try. Get it good and warm, them press the emblems on as firm as you can.

If you get the 3M tape applied well and firmly, those emblems should NEVER come off. Water, dirt, snow, no matter.

U will have to use a razor blade to shave the excess so it is flush with the emblem. Tedious, but works well, and looks great when done. Thats how I did my 5.0!

Thanks for the info. I am planning on doing the 5.0 emblems and the faux gas cap. I have a black stang and want these blacked out.

If you did these, can you share the pictures with me?

Yeah, seems like a simple razor knife and some 3M strips and maybe some 3M adhesive promoter would get you back to how it was OEM for sure.
