Wheel painting options

Looking at repainting my GT wheels from Silver to matte black. But thinking I want to stay away from duplicolor rattle can this time (done a few trucks this way)

Anyone ever used basecoat with a matte clear over it? I just think a quality urethane base and clear would hold up better. And don't tell me to use plastidip, LOL.

I was about to write plastidip, but then I read your last line lol. From my experience, sand blasting could be your other option. For DYO, I've absolutely no info lol sorry
