Hand prints in clear coat...removal options?

Hello all,

I purchased a resto-mod 67 mustang recently and after a deep cleaning I have noticed a number of hand prints in the clear coat of my shaker hood.

Now I know my basic options, wet sand or clay bar but being VERY unskilled in detailing I would like some advice.

I know its important that I CAN feel the handprints when running my finger over them.

I luckily have a old beater truck to test my skills before touching my hood but what would you suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Before going to the extreme of wet sanding...

You can try claybar, but if the print isn't just on the surface, it won't come up with that alone (oil prints).

The next steps would be the following:

First get a dual action random orbital.

Use some clear friendly compound (like meguire's ultimate compound) until the prints are gone. May need to lean into it a bit. Use medium speed. Wool pad.

Then use a ultra fine polish with the. DA orbital. Also medium speed... Black soft pad.

Then sealer/wax. I like to hand seal/wax personally.

Good luck.
