There are quite a few posts on this subject, especially in this section. It would be a difficult topic to search on though, as many have been offered as an excellent source to use. As to off the shelf products, I've always had good results with Meguiars.

No doubt you'll get some suggestions on your post.

Several good products out there. Go to a few car shows and see what they are using.

Detail Doc. is great. But I would not use it during the summer.

The guy that just did my stripes recommends Jax Wax products. I bought a couple of items from him and they seem to be pretty good. He demos the wax at car shows by putting it on a car in the morning, letting it bake all day, then wiping it off. He clay barred an area on my hood to show me the full detail. This Fall when it cools down here in AZ, I plan on clay barring with the Jax Wax system...

FWIW, he uses the quick detailer wax spray on his vehicles most of the time.

They also have products for rubber / plastic / vinyl to clean and protect without building up the product. This is the product he recommended for keeping up the Matte Black vinyl...

If you want professional results, use professional products. So anything in Autozone, Pep Boys, etc....Garbage.

I recommend autogeek.net or detailersdomain.com for your products, and AMMO NYC | DRIVE + PROTECT for how-tos.

Meguiar's makes good quality detailing products that won't break your wallet. Highly recommend Auto Geek for detailing products. I'm a huge fan of Meguiar's products and use them religiously!

The products aren't garbage they just aren't the professional line. They are the O.T.C. line. Megs for example.
