Corrosion

I have corrosion that is peeling my paint on my hood. It started under the lip of the hood and is flaking it's way around. I took it to a Ford dealership and had them send pictures to Ford. Ford pretty much said its not their problem.

Any advise for touching it up? I'm not getting the whole thing painted because the cost is crazy. Anyone have experience with paint matching a new hood?

Best thing is probably going to be to find a new hood

I just don't think the paint will match right if I got a new one

They use Factory colors, I think it would be hard for it not to match

There are many many people with this issue. Tons of people have had their hood replaced under warranty by ford. I would suggest taking it to another dealership and see what they say

Had the same problem on my 11. Luckily I was under warranty and they repainted it for free. We'll see how well it hold up though. I hear repainting it really doesn't solve the problem. A year later and so far so good.

Found my 2014 has the same issue. Bubbling up on the front edge of the hood above both headlights. Taking into the dealer this week and going to ask for a new hood. This stuff never really gets fixed. This has been going on way too long for Ford to ignore it.

Ford will only repair and not replace the hood. Contacted the NBC5 tv consumer hotline for assistance. We'll see.

The first time it happened to mine they repaired it, when it came back exactly a year later they replaced it. Too bad Ford has disappeared from the forums try used to participate in.

So I just got a quote from a local body shop to have the whole hood stripped and repainted. I was going to ask if it comes back? It's cheaper to have it painted than getting a new hood, but if it comes back, it isn't worth it.

Any advise for touching it up? I'm not getting the whole thing painted because the cost is crazy. Anyone have experience with paint matching a new hood? You will find that the bubbles are full of white powder which is aluminium oxide or aluminium "rust".

On mine the bubbling started on the underside edge and I scrapped them off and the corrosion stopped and never made it to the top side. Aluminum cannot corrode when exposed to air but underneath the paint it will keep on spreading. My advice is to remove the bubbles as soon as you see them and pay particular attention to the edge seams under the hood. If you just leave them they grow and grow.

Any hood that is showing signs of corrosion is doomed. It will come back, it's just a matter of when and how bad the contamination is.

At the end of the day, I'd be replacing the hood, sure the cost is more up front but you'll be paying again later with a repair.
