RTR rim rust?

I purchased matte black RTR rims about a year ago and noticed today that only one of them is rusty. Put a bit of elbow grease in it today and it's not looking too hot.
Wondering if it's possible that one of them was defective?

I would contact the manufacture or the shop you bought them... That should not be normal for 1 yr old rim.

Thanks for the input. This is my first time buying rims.. kind of dissapointed because these weren't cheap. Guess I should've gotten the AM ones...

I would buy some wheel cleaner at wally mart and try to clean the wheels first and see how it looks afterwards but you may have to actually scrub the wheels instead of hoping that a high pressure wash does the job cause it wont.

How often do you clean your wheels? Reason I ask is because aluminum does not rust but brake dust can and will if left for any period if time. Once rusting it can pit and embed in the powder coat. Whatever wheel cleaner you use just make sure it is clear coat safe.

Yea I agree, it doesnt look like he cleans his wheels very often and thats a build up of brake dust which will ruin your wheels if you dont properly clean them very often. If I had spent that much money on those wheels they would be spotless....

Use these two to see if you can get them clean:
http://www.autogeek.net/carpro-iron-x-cleaner.html
http://www.autogeek.net/pigelwhcl.html

Yes they are a bit expensive but they work and no you can't get these at a local store.
Even if they work or not still contact the whoever you bought them from. I have the same wheels but I'm not sure how long the warranty is. I would clean and protect your 'stang and wheels better to help prevent problems like this.

RTR rim rust?

Try pinnacle wheel cleaner to keep your wheels clean and Iron X may clean up your problem with that wheel. You can get both on autogeek.net. No you can't get this stuff at any store as far as I know. You should also contact whoever you got the wheels from to see if this is covered under warranty as what the others have said is right. I have the same exact wheels but I'm not sure of the warranty conditions. The wheel may be to far gone to clean up. I would start taking better care of the outside of your 'Stang if you want it to look nice and problem free. Clean and put on something to protect. The site I mentioned above has a lot of information. I know this from 16 years of detailing my cars and others.

Something to try that you can get local, CLR and a nylon woven bug sponge.

Thanks for the advice guys! Its starting to warm up this week and I will be putting a good scrub on them. I figure worst case scenario.. buy another one and use that for a spare. That rust color hasn't been that way for that long at all, hopefully it will clean up fine.

Wow, I've never seen these wheels rust like that. I recommend starting with what all of these guys are saying. Get some good wheel cleaner and see what the wheels look like with a really good wash. If you're still having this issue we can work with you and the manufacturer to find a solution. We won't leave you high and dry, I can promise you that!

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for recommending that ironx AJ! That stuff works wonders! Lemon scented my ***! It worked so good, that I already bought some more.

Ends up my back brake pads were dust. Big time. Thank goodness winter is almost over, I have some more maintenance to take care of. Thank you Dan for your words and time. (I just bought new floor mats, and some front splash gaurds from am) Every post I make I'm also getting closer to the forum discount. Yay.
