MMD Hood Strut Issues

Anyone else have a problem with their hood struts not staying in line with the fender? No matter how much I tighten the bolt and realign, it pops back out after the first closing of the hood. I cant figure out why this is happening. Its only on the driver side.

Hey,

That's a good question and definitely on the strange side! Have you flipped the lower bracket at all? If you give that a try and it's still not aligned shoot me a PM and we'll facilitate a claim for you!

Alex, I have tried switching it with the other side if that's what you mean by flipping it. Still same issue. Hydraulics on that side seems stiff as well. Found another forum with the same issue MMD Hood strut questions/issues. - The Mustang Source - Ford Mustang Forums

Alex, I will try flipping them tonight. Its funny looking at the user provided photos of the strut kits some have them mounted my way and others have them mounted flipped as you recommended. So hopefully this will resolve my issue. Thanks for the help.

Mine do the same thing. I have not tried flipping. If I remember correctly, this is how the instructions showed to do it...unless I didn't read them correctly.

I'll try flipping them also to see if that helps. I just checked the ad on the AM site. The customer photos seem to agree with us as several are turned also.

Alex, as an engineer, I don't see this as bad parts, instead poor design. I do think that flipping will solve the problem. Maybe the whole problem lies in the instructions. I'll keep you up to date.

No change for me. As soon as the hood goes down it comes out of alignment. May have to go with redline struts. Different design to bad AM doesn't carry them for 2014 models.

This is the reason I only by my parts from AM! These guys went out of their way to make things right. I totally expected to have to eat this cost and just move on. To be honest they didn't have to do this. This was a pour design like Bigmac stated in this thread. MMD makes great products. They just need to go back to the drawing board on this particular product. Thanks again Alex!

Thanks for your kind comments and feedback! We really appreciate it! I'm going to have our correspondence and the thread sent over to our contact so they can take a close look at this. I'll be honest as soon as I first saw the thread I had to run out to my car to take a look for myself as well as check over 10 project cars to see if this was reoccurring! I'm always here to help out day or night so please don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of any assistance!

Alex
