Ford Racing X Pipe & Bama tune

Hey guys...just installed the FORD RACING X PIPE today for my 2013 V6...man what a pain in the ***! I would have hoped Ford Racing got their design/fitting parameters nailed a little better...damn thing was off by half an inch. Luckily I had a friend with a pneumatic press and we bent the pipe...

My question is : Does an X Pipe require a revised tune ?? I am running the race tune for 91 fuel at the moment and have several intake/throttle mods.

Thanks for the advice...

Hey Grom-Sorry to hear about the trouble with the install. That's a good question and the Ford Racing X Pipe will "not" require a tune. Let me know if you have any other questions or feel free to shoot Bama a call directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you set up!

Alex

Hey, Bama told me they would not change the tune for it, but I told them I had it just to be sure! MPT did want to tune for it though I believe. The cat's are still on so the performance gains should be next to nothing unless you get high-flow cat's, then they will have to tune for those and the mid pipe.

You will have to get a new tune for the TB.

Correctamundo! As grabber had said below if you picked up a different throttle body I would recommend getting a tune revision!

Yes. The throttle body requires a tune revision

Well.... They kind of have to change the tune for the new throttle body.... Or your engine won't be running right..... It won't know to account for more air from the bigger TB.

That's what I figured...but I just called them again right now and they said "Well, those telling you to get a new tune are not the ones actually writing the tunes...so we know better. You do not need a revised tune for those modifications. If you deleted the cats then yes, but merely to remove the check engine light from going on.".

So verdict ??

If you have a new throttle body you need a revised tune for the bigger throttle body. That's it. Plain and simple.

No. If they are really saying you don't need a new tune for an aftermarket throttle body take your business elsewhere. I would not trust someone with my car who tells me it doesn't need a revised tune and won't revise it for an aftermarket throttle body.

See Alex this is along the lines of how the person myself and others at the show talked to sounded.
I'm not the one having the convo in this case Grom is so I don't know the exact details but if they're really telling him they won't tune for an aftermarket throttle body.... You know better than I do that that is just wrong.

MPT, steeda, Lund, AED, there are a lot of choices out there. How aggressive do you want the tune to be and what's your budget like?

No. $75 for an MPT tune that you can update for up to 6 months, $150 for steeda tunes for life, the same idea as Bama, and Lund is $200 but that's the premier tuner... Not sure on AED's price but along the same lines as Lund I believe. I would recommend MPT or steeda

Well...not aggressive to the point of shorting engine life....but definitely a tune with a jump in power...I mean, equivalente to a Race tune of BAMA.

Look into steeda. For $150 you get free tunes for life and they are really good with working with you. They will also work with ford if there are any problems they have a really close relationship with them. Best bang for your buck and the "safest" of the tunes IMO. I don't personally have them but I know a few people on here do and like them.

It could be worse. Atleast you have a running car and nothing is wrong! All they're doing is saying they won't revise your tune for your throttle body.... Which is just so ridiculous. Whoever you are talking to must have literally no idea about tuning or cars. Why they are answering the phone for Bama I don't know. They pick up at almost 9 at night? Lol

Oh right duh 3 hour time difference. Do they know you're talking about the throttle body and not the mid pipe

The only thing they should be adjusting the tune for is the throttle body. Call back and ask again. Ask for the name of the person you're talking to. If they won't revise it for the throttle body please
Post who it is you're speaking too. I'm sure Alex would love
To know. That person deserves to be fired.

It was Pat...but I recalled him again now and kinda insisted and he was actually quite nice...he said he would re-do it with a new Race 'test' tune they have...so I'm waiting for that one to come through. Let's see...

Not sure what's up...but maybe I'm getting somewhere.

Are they going to tune for the new throttle body on the race tune? Glad you're getting somewhere

Well if they said they are then they are. You had said that they wouldn't before. Did they say that they would tune for the BBK throttle body?

That's BS. If you don't tune for it your car won't know it's on there. You will see no gains. Basically throwing $400 down the toilet if they won't tune for it.
Hopefully someone else can chime in on this, I don't have an aftermarket TB so I can't go into details about it.

That's my mistake I had misunderstood! I thought this was in regards to the spacer that you just picked up that would not need a tune.

Grabber and Grom-To clear the air here we do not tune for throttle bodies-This is right on the product page for not only the 73mm 3.7 but for the 85mm as well as 90mm TB on the 5.0's If anyone would like to speak with a tuner and discuss this further please feel free to contact them directly at 888.226.9764 .
