Made it down the track

Ell I ran my car for the first time last night!! Didn't do to bad! Made 4 runs. Speed got faster buy my ET was up and down! Traction was the pits last night! All the 5.0's were spending bad! The last run was against a 13 5.0 with a pro charger!! Pulled him off the line! I start to spin. So. Bad when I shifted in to 3 that the wheels broke loose as soon as I let out the clutch.and the engine over reved so bad treat I tried to shift to fourth and missed a gear! Dam, I might have had him, but he flew by me! I'll be putting up my time slips here in a little bit.

I heard ford has scouts at tracks now looking for plates etc and using it to void warranty. Is this really true?

Re: Made it down the track

Bwhahaha.....don't give the worry-warts more to ponder.

Mine's been out once; like you said mph is all over the place, typical when you're learning shift points etc. I've done 12.9 on it and a best mph 113.9.

My time from first to last run: 105 mph ET 13.8 60' - 2.4. 2nd run 109.ph ET 14.8 60'-2.7. 3rd run 111.4 mph. ET 13.4. 60'-2.3. 4th run. This one was bad could not hook up at all 93.7mph ET 14.2 60' 2.2! That's what I did last night! Traction was really bad!

Re: Made it down the track

My '12 BBP 3.73 wheelhopped so bad I had it going into 4th gear. I had to pedal the car in all 3 lower gears abit to contain it. It's endemic to all S197 Mustangs (and frankly all mustangs since 64-1/2). Easy fix: Put the upper control arm of your choice in there.

Ok! I believe that's the first step, along with some slicks!! How good are the radial slicks?

Re: Made it down the track

I've used drag radials alot. There is a learning curve there. Unlike a bias slick where, because of construction and compound, you need very little burnout to heat and if you overdo it, you make them greasy; a drag radial doesn't like to warm up. A good smoky burnout is required to get some heat into them. I found once the tread wore mostly off, they were at their best. Nice thing about DRs also is no funky sway at the top end. They do stick but, people ***** because they don't understand how to use DRs, mostly.

make sure you get the right size. If you're on stock motor or stock + tune and 3.73s, you'll want a 28" tire to prevent shifting to 5th at top end. under that gear, you can get away with the cheaper, more available 26" tire on that motor combo.

Re: Made it down the track

Yep, I was at my track last night and it was 90+ degrees so everyone slowed up b/c of that + th high humidity made it unpredictable on the start line. I'm running a 4" contact patch sportbike so, me and my bike friends feel it first.
