Tell me how!

I ran a darn 15.2 at the track? At the time all I had done to the car was CAI and short shifter and I couldn't break the fourteens it was my first time at the track and I kept dumping the clutch cause that'd what I do on the street and it works! But not Ay the track! I got a lot more mods since then Full exhaust LT, midpipe and catback, rims and tires and radials on the back! getting 4:10 gears soon! And a bans tuner. Getting all around suspension done but I will take it to the track before that's done. Anyone have any idea about what times I should throw down

There no reason you should have run low 14s with just the CAI and short shifter. And there's no reason you shouldn't run mid 13s with your new mods. But you should really work on learning how to drive your car before you just throw mods at it. Practice launching at ~2,000rpm and slipping the clutch out so you don't spin so much. What was your 60' time?

60ft times could have been VERY bad, without a good 60ft time you may as well baby the car down the track cuz beating on it wont help matters.

Aim for 2.0 or better 60ft time then worry about shifting hard etc.

The 4.10 will help you a lot and like stated above 60ft time is what you should aim for. I ran a 13.2 on an auto 02 gt with bolt ons

What was your trap speed? Sometimes the trap can tell a lot, like if you have a lot more potential. Do you stop as soon as the 2nd light comes on (shallow stage)? Played with lowering air pressure in your tires for launch traction?

1/2 or more of the battle is in your launch and 60'.

Gsrguy- I have been practicing and I think it wAs just me going from straight street racing to track. It's a lot different. And I could only find one. Track slip I think the rest are in my car but the one I found I ran a 15.5 with a 2.4 60'. -_-
Venemous- what are all yur bolt ons? I would give my right nut to hit low 13's?
Spector- I only went once and didn't have a chance to play with tire pressure of any of that. I will though with the radials.
And hay guys thanks a lot for te help. Any tips on taking off to reduce spin or just tips period?

Paulford- sorry I may sound dumb but what you mean trap speed? And I'm not understanding what you mean about th "shallow stage?" when I went I just straight dumped the clutch and spun through 1st and 2nd.

Slip the clutch. Like taking off normally from a stop, but with more throttle. Modulate the throttle/clutch. How long have you been driving stick?

No I don't. Hopefully I can get some and a tuner and I will hopefully break into the 12's. I love the sound of it! There's no other exhaust like it! Only this car including the purchase price of it so far around 6200 bucks

Gotta keep your cool at the tree. Get your revs up and get ready. When the last light is yellow let the clutch out half way get rolling and by the time you've gone 1.5 carlengths you should be wide open. On 305 rubber you should be able to cut a 1.9 60' hell my buddy set a record for 275 micley street radials. 1.61 he ran 10.2 letting out at 3/4 track. (no cage) its his dd haha.

Yea the car came with some of the mods, is it a ws6? I have Griggs racing coils in the front and and koni yellows in the back (more stiffer) also have MM k member. Lol it allows more airflow and throttle response.

Slow shifting as well. With a 2.0 you are still looking at mid 14s at best.

People at the the track are not usually street racers. They are more professional and have more to lose in their car generally so you find tougher competition at the track. The ONLY place that matters.

You couldn't possibly know that it 'works' on the street because there is no slip to tell you how good your launch was or how much worse the opponents was.

Track tells all. Throwing more mods without having first mastered the car will probably make for equally bad times.

"trap speed" is how fast you ended at. Basically your more of less going to get up to speed, question is how long does it take you to get up to speed. For example: If you ran a 15.2 at 85MPH 15.2 is about all you have... If you ran 15.2 at 100 MPH you didnt have a good launch or 60' and there is a lot left for you to get.

Sorry if you mentioned but what was your tire pressure? I take a little 12v air pump I take to the track so I can let air out of my tires. This does help a lot with traction..

Staging: So if you inch up and STOP as SOON as the 2nd light comes on you are shallow staged. Basically you will be moving already when you cross the line (faster ET). A "deep" stage is when you roll forward until the first set of lights goes out. At that point you are RIGHT up against the start line. Your chance of red lighting (starting early) is greater but it is a good tactic to beat a faster car because you are starting in front. Or if you enter a bracket or trophy race a deep stage will help for the same reason (you are starting in front).

Keep working it!

Yeah you can trim about a second off that. Practice your launch and shift at 5,600 going into third and fourth.

For those really wanting to optimize shift points look into a shift light. It will help you have consistant shifts. It's not always optimal to run these 2v engines all the way to redline as they start dropping power with basic bolt ons.

Launching just takes practice to learn what the car and tires like. There's no reason a 5 speed car can't cut 1.7 60' times on drag radials. Just have to find that happy spot

Even lower. DRs can be optimally run to 1.699 if the power is there.

Even on my 3V. I got my best stock times shifting at 5900. After tune and mods I shift at 6800 and that has proven to be the fastest.

Jesus man, relax. My comment didn't deserve your sarcasm

I didn't say 'You should'. I said 'I' because 'I' don't see the point otherwise.

But at the track at least, why not reflash it?
