Looking to build a street/strip beast... what to start with

Im looking to build a strip car for fun and also to keep my daily driver 2012 mustang off the track. Im still trying to choose a car to start, maybe I can find some experienced help here... I need to keep the car cheap as I am on a budget. Looking to spend less than 10 grand on the car it's self. I dont care about paint or scratches, things like AC and radio are going out the door anyhow, same with carpet and rear seat and probably interior panels also. The car needs needs a good frame, solid body with little or no rust, a good running engine and smooth manual trans. Am I being reasonable here? And what kind should I be looking at? My first thought was a 5.0 Fox Body as I have wanted one for a long time but I want to consider all options and hear some others opinions.

Thanks for you opinion's

Im in Florida, no inspection or smog test so I am good there. I live so close to the track that I could probably drive it down there without any trouble from police. There used to seeing cars like that around town on friday night, the car clubs bring allot of business to the small town so they are pretty lenient with us.

Any other suggestions? Im not at all opposed to the 5.0, just want to explore options. Also, for anyone with a 5.0 fox, how are prices on parts?

WHAT! HOW! please, enlighten me... I know parts are allot cheaper but I didn't think I could pull this off for less than 15k. If I could keep it all under 10 grand I would be a very happy man.

Is it hard finding parts? I thought there were companies making parts for these cars since so manny people like to race them.... im a patient guy and I get around to allot of swap meets and shows, Im sure that I could hunt down parts with some help if it came to that... I also have access to a great scrap yard out here that im sure has some things... maybe even a parts car or roller.... will have to look into that.
