First time to the Drag Strip

Brought the Bullitt to the 1/4 mile today. Only been driving stick for less than a week and this was my first time ever racing at the drag strip. Track wasn't well prepped today either so everyone was spinning off the line. I think I did pretty well for the circumstances.

I was pretty happy with it. Definetly gotta work on my shifting and launching though... I'll probably start my mods with an mgw shifter.

I think that's great for the first time at the track. I don't think your shifting is killing you. It's the 60ft time. But, they may not be you either. It could easily just be your street tires. You have to buy some pretty expensive performance all-season or summer tires for them to be sticky (being relative to how sticky a street tire can be). Sounds like your a good driver, now you just need to get to know your car better. Good job man!

My first run was 14.7 cause I just didn't know what to expect at launch. Plus I missed 3rd LOL. It took me several trips down the strip to knock a second off that time and I'm still leaving some at launch with a 2.2 60 ft.

Those were my best times. I got in 11 runs before I left. I averaged mid to high 14s and some low 15s

your 60ft time is rather bad, should be in the 2.1-2.0 but track prep and experience will work that one out. Every .1 off your 60ft is about double that on the slip so by getting it down to 2.0 you would shave off 6 tenths

and also until you get in the 2.1's no point in shifting it hard etc as the run isnt going to be great regardless. Go on a good hot night when its prepped nice and you should do better.

Also put something on the rear fender where you toss up the rubber and crap to keep the paint from getting messed up. Avoid the water box as well and drop a bit of psi from the rear tires but not to much.

Yea the track wasn't prepped well last night. And it was pretty cool out so it was a little more slick.

Horrible launches. Because of that you have a quick car, nail a 2.0 60' foot and you are in the 13s for sure!!!

I know I've got to work on my launches. I just got the car so I didn't heat the tires at all, just pulled up and raced. Track wasn't prepped well either, and so many people going through the water on street tires and leaving it behind for the guys behind to slip.

When I have to get new tires I'll get DRs for sure:

Heating up street tires will reduce grip.

The water box issue is over exaggerated. At ATCO, NJ. One of the fastest tracks around, you can NOT go around the water box. Quick 4 k dump spin and you're good.

Your car is quick man. I'm sure you're happy with the time knowing there is more left in it.

Oh I know it can do better. It's mostly me lol. I've had it less than a week and that's when I started driving manual lol. It's mostly me that needs to get better. I'm thinking of getting an MGW shifter as my first mod though.

---------- Post added at 11:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:56 AM ----------

I actually wasn't expecting to do as good as I did that night:

Do what I did. I went stock to see what my fist mods should be. I went from wanting a tune, to wanting a new shifter.

It is, there was some little Nissan pickup there with a 4 banger. I wondered why they brought it until I heard that turbo when he launched and got 12s

You also have weaker half shafts. 28 spline at diff, 31 spline at hub. Just keep it mind is all
