I got challenged

So my friend has a V6 2013 Camaro. I have a 2010 GT. I have a CAI and performance tune along with a few little other things. He has done nothing. His dad challenged me to race in his sons car. He wants to race for pinks, but I would never put my baby at risk haha. His dad is 100% sure he will win because he is a "better driver". Both cars are automatic, but his camaro has paddle shifters. Im not being cocky about it, but hes starting to get on my nerves so i think im gonna race him. What do you guys think. Does he have a chance?

he shouldn't win

your car is lighter, has more torque and is performance tuned.

If you loose you should hand over your pink slip.

now, before you get flamed, I hope you mean racing at a track and not on the street.

You should easily win. The v6 Camaro can't keep up with the new v6 Mustang and that can't beat a '10 GT in stock trim.

Hahaha he doesn't need my pink. He has a Corvette and 911 turbo sitting in his garage. He could buy any car he wanted. Also it's actually happening (not for pinks, but we might bet some money) I've never raced on a track, but I've practiced some starts. Any quick tips for driving an auto?

Get some sticky tires, practice on your launches! Can't stress that enough, soo many races are won in the first 60'. If your buddies dad has money, he might slap some spray on for the race, ask to check under the good before the race and check the intake for N02 lines. Remove ALL extra weight! (spare tire, jack, speakers, etc.) get to the track with as little fuel in the tank as you can, for example less than an 1/8 tank of gas. Clean and recharge your air filter a day or two before you go, buy some good new spark plugs I suggest Denso Iridiums. Lower your rear tire pressure at the track (play with it to find out the best pressure). Of course use 93 octane, maybe race gas if you have a tune for it. When you get to the track, pop your hood to let the car cool down and place a bag of ice directly onto your intake manifold and let it sit there for 30-45 minutes or until its melted. I don't know if it applies or can be done to the '10 GT, but try to find a belt that will only wrap around the crank pulley/water pump/tensioner so you won't lose power by driving the alternator/ac compressor/power steering pump. This means you won't have power steering but allows more power to be retained. If I think of any more I'll post em. Oh and after doing a burnout, do a small practice launch to test the traction on the tires before lining up so you'll know if you need more heat, and after your tires are good and sticky put the car in neutral and rev it up from idle once or twice so you can "flush" the converter. You get all this down and you should make his dad look like a freaking newb on the track!!! Oh and please video this race and put it on YouTube!

Oh and change plugs before you play with launches and shifts! Speaking experience, I changed plugs on my auto '01 GT, and it went from never hitting the rev limiter under WOT (wide open throttle) when I would leave it in drive, to bouncing off the rev limiter 3-5 times in 1st and 2nd gear before shifting. Also dyno your car to find exactly where your horsepower curve is and set shift points accordingly on your tuner, assuming you can manually set shift points and shift modulation on your tuner. Have fun!

perhaps the camaro is running Nitrous who knows, find out as much as you can before racing at the track, also go and get some experience if you have none, a bit of experience can make for a MUCH Faster time.

Out of the current V6 versions of the muscle cars, the Mustang is the only one with any decent balls. The Camaro is significantly heavier and not as good of a powerband. If both are auto, and both reaction times are equal, you will walk him easily.

pinks hahahahahahahahahaahha. Is this guy an adult?

always do it at the track, numbers = accurate ....

who ever crosses the end first does not always run the faster time lol, reaction does not matter at the track, its all about whos car is faster from the moment it starts moving till it crosses the line.

The best way to improve that time is experience though before you line them up

I haven't been to the track yet, so I have no idea how to find a track and what to do once I find it. Can I just run the track, or do I have to race someone?

No need to be snobby. He's a very experienced driver, and I've never even been to the track. Just wondering if he had a chance. If you don't like the thread move on and don't post.

ouch! brother.

I hope he isn't concerned with looking like a "coward" on a board.

The V6 is not too shabby but if he can run a low 14 he should be able to walk the Camaro.

If it makes you feel better I raced one at the track, he ran a mid 15 to my 13.1, it was like 3 bus lengths.

yes, that's about 20 + "cars". it is amazing how much a 2 second gap really is.

Go around the water box, as your slowly rolling to the staging light stab the gas to test traction real quick, this isn't the street, you'll stick better.

Then stage and don't load the converter, just keep ur left foot lightly on the brake to keep from rolling, then when the 3rd yellow light lights up smash the gas at the same time your lifting your left foot off the brake

Does anyone else remember that thread of that stock 05-09 GT vs the 11-12 V6 like a couple weeks ago? The GT still won, you have the same engine; and the 11+ Mustang V6 is faster than the 10+ Camaro V6, so if you just think a little it should be clear who the winner should be.
