LS3 vs 5.0

Anyone had any experience racing against an LS3 corvette? I have a 2014 gt/cs with jlt cai, custom dyno tune, offroad x pipe, 3.73 gears and lca's

The reason I am asking is because this guy around town has a stock 2013 grand sport and he brags about how fast his vette is and he also hates mustangs.

The LS3 and 5.0 coyote are basically equal engines. I think the Vette would win just based on weight and suspension alone, even with your mods.

If he is stock you will beat him. At the track. From a roll you probably wont. You are going to need a little more done. From a roll they will almost always pull at 120+

i love vettes, also love dragging there ***. But motor vs motor its not easily done. Its not there motor like they claim. Its there weight advantage. If he is tuned or exhaust and a cam not going to happen.

I'm thinking it will be close until you get over 100 mph then the vette will pull.

Stock for stock they will win. Better stock suspension. Better stock power. They are also lighter stock.

Easy way to deal with this. Wait till you are in front of a group of mutual friends/co-workers. Slap a $100 bill down and ask him to match it at the 1/4 track. He either accepts and loses (if he truly is stock) or he *****es out and will stop talking.

Now if he has even a little work done you will lose and if he as a cam/tune you'll get your *** handed to you so be damn sure its stock. If you want to really kick his *** get a set of good cams and a Boss intake and a good dyno tune.

Thing about the LS is they are easily power added. The 5.0 needs multiple cams $$$ etc. LS heads are plentiful and super affordable at any power level with tons of factory support. The 5.0 is a bit more difficult to work on and is a more expensive deal all around. What I don't like about each is, the super thin cylinder walls and powdered metal rods. Stock they are pretty even. So it's about traction and weight at that point. Use a track tire!

LS3 really just needs a single cam and a dyno tune to be a COMPLETE monster. Coyote needs a set of 4 cams, Boss intake and a Tune but will also become a monster. You really have to look at the complete car though and if you are comparing the cost of modding a new Vette to a Coyote you have to factor in the $thousands more the Vette is going to cost initially.

My ls2 GTO automatic went from running 12.9s to 12.2s. The only change was to a 224r "baby cam". Only had shorty headers with factory cats and an otr cai. Everthing else at that time was stock on nitto dr's. So yeah camming LS engines wakes them up big time. Later on I added a 3000 stall ,ported heads, longtubes, fast 102 and a set of mickeys and it ran 11.55@117

Reading through the LSx love, I had to make sure I wasn't on Tech.

Say you want to run 9's. It will cost less a lot less in mods to get the coyote in the 9's vs a vette.

Now if you want a all out roll car or a Texas mile / Texas invitational car get a vette hands down

The Corvette is not a drag car. However, you will spend some serious cash to beat one. The LS has more than earned the respect it has. Those that are biased will learn the hard way. I like performance regardless of who designed it. I'm not brand loyal. The quickest and fastest for the leastest wins!
