First time at 1/8 mile in new mustang

Tonight was the first time at the strip with my 14 mustang gt. I was expecting to be way faster but I'm not use to the car at all (only 1200 miles so far). Fastest I could get was 9.1 at 83mph. I was shifting like a grand pa the while time and was having trouble launching... Either lots of wheel spin or bogging down. It was lots of fun though and can't wait till next time hopefully I'll be faster next time.

That converts to about a 14.1 @104 mph in the quarter
Betting the 60 foot time was not their I am sure you will be picking up a second once you get use to it

That's exactly the time I was hoping for....the track is old and slick as glass and they do no prep at all. My friend brought his zo6 and he was running 850s... We both figured his car would run faster than that. One of the racers there told me that on that track with street tires I'd be slow. He said I had to bog down then take off and the fastest run of 9.1 was when I did that.

Nice work! There's definitely ways around the wheel hop and my best recommendation would be to keep going back to get acclimated to the car. Do you have any mods on her or all stock?

Put it in sport mode, let it help you out and launch at around 2k rpms. Once you get better you can launch harder and with full TC off...

With axlebacks only my car with a crappy 2.19 60 ft at a terrible track I can run an 8.50 at 88 I know if I can stop spinning a little more or go to a better track I can definitely get that lower.

I know this is a stupid question but my gt is a base model.... I'm not sure I've seen any thing to put it in sport mode? I have a traction control button and that's it. ??

Traction control off. Leave on the last yellow and let the clutch out gradually and focus on that shift point. Having low miles isn't helping. Need about 3-4000 miles to wear it in a bit. Times will improve with some mileage. The car runs 13 flat @ a buck 8. Stock. Once you get your launch to 2.0s head to a good track. Have fun.
