Looks like they've exceeded that rumor:
The chassis #'s are 4 digits for GT350's, so technically they could make 9999, and 3 digits for the R's, so they could make 999. IF they wanted to.
The good news if you want a 2017, most of the dealers I've talked to just want to move them, they're not looking for big marks ups or to have them sit in their showrooms. The cars aren't a "new model" any more. The ($60k Mustang) market is pretty well saturated with them already. Many people once you get to >= $60k start shopping for other cars, like Vettes, Caymans or Boxsters, etc..
