It says the same thing in the vehicle description that my 2011 does " Shelby ", on the window sticker.
Also notice that on the right site of the sticker, under " price information ", it lists ( Shelby GT500KR Package ) as one of the line items.

All of these cars are built by Ford..
Yes but as far as collectability is concerned, the KR is an actual SHELBY VIN number, not a Ford. The make of a GT500 is a Ford, yes... but if you have a KR the make is a Shelby.

2017 GT500?

Shelby also made a Shelby GT500SE, from what I've read it their base model variant based on the GT500. With a large amount of options, including an upgraded supercharger producing 605hp. Here's a heavily optioned variant, the first one made...Click image for larger version

I nearly bought it, but couldn't justify dumping 88 grand in a mustang...
There's also a high performance 4.6 variant of the Shelby GT was made GT/SC and another special variant is the GT-C...
Adventure till you drop

The VIN comes from Ford, not SAI.....( the VIN is used to register the car )
SAI issues a CSM #, which has nothing to do with the VIN.

They didn't call the 2000 era GT a GT40 because it was over 43 inches tall. The original GT40 is a GT40 because it is 39 and change. I don't call my dog a cat because he walked on all fours, I call him a dog because he is a dog.

This is why I call this GT the GT44- as many people refer to Mustang GTs as GTs, and I get excited when I shouldn't be. It would be the GT44 if they kept tradition, but it isn't too catchy. A bummer there is no way to tell the 2017 from the 2000 era, going by text.

I've been meaning to find out how tall the new one is, but I don't want to believe in a spec now and it possibly be different later.

Your both right. Ford was going to call it a GT40, but another company picked it up since Ford let the rights lapse, a deal fell apart to use it.

I've heard that, but never from any type of reputable source. It is mentioned here, but again, no source :/

I'd love for someone to show a source! And of course it could be like the origins of the Mustang name, rumored that the Corvette was supposed to be named the Mustang, but to spite GM, Ford got it first- and it was one itf the creators favorite air planes, and a co creator loved the Mustang breed of horses. I read it is one, but then the other, and I can't believe anyone. I do know the dimensions, and sound reasoning behind it, so I try not to perpetuate a story I haven't seen actually supported. Here is the only article I know of supporting that claim: http://jalopnik.com/5976102/the-amaz...test-supercar/

Just read the statement regarding this from Bob Wood, owner of Safir Engineering, actually located in Ohio.

Ford never made an offer. When they made the prototype they contacted SE, and asked what they wanted, but never made any effort (including ANY offer) to actually purchase it, or license it. Just kinda shot the idea around. Apparently stories and uneducated rumors/media has turned it into the story you both have mentioned...which is why I use sources! Lol, perfect example of my point up there haha

When you have various people batting ideas around, history can be almost any interpretation they want. It is likely that the preliminary talks did not give Ford an impression that the rights would be worth the price. It could be that someone at Ford just thought it would be expensive. A name is just a hook with a lot of PR value. I did not state that a deal could not have been made, but not owning the name made it less attractive to Ford.

The current VIN system has only been in effect since 1981, when the NHTSA took over responsibility. Once a VIN has been issued, it is illegal to alter or change the VIN under federal law. A state may issue a new VIN in case of a stolen car that has been recovered and the original VIN has been removed. Also if a car is remanufactured from parts, like if someone builds a new-old mustang from aftermarket parts, the state can issue a VIN. SAI cannot issue a VIN for one of their upgrades, because the engine, body, and other parts have a manufacturer's VIN already and cannot change it. They can create a customer registration number that will track what modifications are done by Shelby. This keeps anyone from taking any car and making it into a more collectible model. For example, turning a GT350 into a GT350R.
