2017 GT500?

Just trying to get some opinions here.
Do yall think a next gen GT500 is one of the 12 Ford Performance vehicles promised or will the GT350R hold the mustang crown? Or will we get a dual spectrum with the GT350R being the road course car and the GT500 being the strip car?

In recent interviews & press releases from Ford, there has been no mention of a future GT500.

Bring back the 500 with the new 5.2L and put on twin turbos.

I suspect that Shelby and others will take up the Hellcat challenge. The traditional GT500 has been a big block version. The S197 version was with the 5.4 & 5.8 engines instead of the 4.6/5.0 GT engines. There is no big block that is available for the S550, so a GT500 would have to be a blown version of the 5.0 or 5.2. I have doubts that a turbo engine would be a good fit. I would wonder about whether Ford would consider a version of the Ecoboost 3.5 like the Ford GT has. Maybe for the Mach 1 or Bullitt versions.

I highly doubt GT500 would have an ecoboost 3.5, but then again I woulda said that same thing about the GT in December

They should be able to get some serious HP out of the 5.2 flat plane. Either SC or turbo.

I still believe the 3.5 turbo in the GT is just marketing. They only sell a limited number and they basically all go to collectors and are barely driven, before sitting an AC garage being dusted once a week.

But you never know what Ford comes up with. I don't see Shelby putting out a Mustang without a V8.

I wouldn't really consider it a "big block" version. The 5.4 is the same as the 4.6 just it has a longer stroke. Then they bore it out to get the 5.8. So it's not all too much different than the 4.6. The coyote was all by itself in terms of structure. The 5.2 is actually pretty close to the coyote, uses the same stroke just a bit larger bore and the different internals of course.

If the new GT500 is everything you want it to be, are you selling the 11 or the 14?

That would be awesome, but I doubt Ford will do that.

I didn't think they were contracting out to Shelby. The GT350 is offered from Shelby and not Ford.
I think Ford is supposed to offer an SVO or SVT or whatever at some point with 5.2.

If they are going to do it right they should do the 6.2L with a Whipple and an automatic option with drag pack options too. If not then it isn't like they can't do an improved Trinity 5.8L and crank it up to 800-900hp.

Its also not like its very hard to get hellcat hp numbers out of even a 2007 GT500.

The GT350 is Ford. Shelby licensed the name to them again.

So you'll be able to order them through Ford like the GT500 last year?

Ever since 2007 with the GT500. The SVT Cobra was a rumor.

Any future GT500 would have to start with north of 662hp to get my attention..
............. A GT500 is not in the list of future Ford projects.
I have considered selling the 11, ( he couldn't afford what I was asking ), the 14 isn't going anywhere..

I would like to see them go the route of the SVT Cobra. Also like the idea of the Hellcat version of mustang. I mean lets face it we know they can kick its a$$. So maybe a limited Fire Horse or Lightening... some kind of Horse name from mythology or something. They should make an "Elenor" also.

Pay the Tolkein estate whatever they need to get "Shadowfax" and release a limited edition white with black interior set to like 800-1000hp on a 6.2L Whipple setup.

The GT500s that do exist are already better all around cars than the hellcat and they are 99% as fast.

Then theres the C7 corvette which is a **** ton better car than the hellcat and runs neck and neck in straight pulls.

And this is coming from a guy who loves hellcats.
Except I like any car that's RWD and manual transmission swapped in.

Ill take any rwd car over any fwd car. id rather have a 1992 grand marquis that's running on 3 cylinders than a built srt4 as long as it has rwd and a manual transmission.

Its sort of like how most straight guys would rather pork a fat ugly chick than take it in the bum bum from another hot guy

Ford owns the Shelby designation for the Mustangs. Shelby American is only allowed to use those designations as Ford allows. The only name that Shelby American owns, is the Shelby GT. While Ford was building the Shelby GT500, Shelby American was allowed to use the Shelby GT350 designation, and was allowed to soup up the GT500s into Super Snake versions.

Brand names can get convoluted. The Ford GT could not be called the GT40 because they let the rights lapse, and someone else registered it.

Hmmm, I thought that Shelby licensed the name out to Ford... I know damn sure for a fact that the 08 GT500KR is an actual SHELBY including the VIN, not a Ford. Like if you pull the VIN it will say "SHELBY GT500KR", no Ford anywhere in there. The non KRs are all Ford VINs though.

.
Not sure what you're trying to say, look up this 2008 Shelby GT500KR's VIN.
.
1ZVHT88S585189819
.
It says the same thing in the vehicle description that my 2011 does " Shelby ", on the window sticker.
Also notice that on the right site of the sticker, under " price information ", it lists ( Shelby GT500KR Package ) as one of the line items.
.
All of these cars are built by Ford..
