2017 GT500

So driving in downtown Phoenix I spotted a cameoed out new body mustang. The wheels were covered I couldn't see the brakes or anything else. What I could hear was a damn beast drowning out my own 12 GT500! Exhaust was loud as hell and I could hear a super charger whining. So something is up with ford and possible future! Can't wait to see what it is.

Ford has said nothing about the " next " or " future " GT500.

Yes we know but I also saw the gt350 out in surprise.az months before it was announced and when they said there wasn't going to be a shelby anymore.... The flat crank can't be supercharged and it was undoubtedly a supercharged engine so who knows what power plant is in there

From what I've read it's the compression issues its too high for a supercharger to be effective. I could be completely wrong and if so someone correct me. Good examples of a flat crank high compression motor are: Porsche and McClaren p1 both choose turbos to boost to almost 900rwhp or more. I'm not really sure all the mechanics behind it but I'd love for a mechanic to break it down.

If there is a new camoed Mustang driving around it should be showing up on the blotters of all the big websites/forums so maybe we'll see those stories soon. Ford is going to have to come up with a big power whatsits just to be able to compare "weiner size" with the Hellcat and whatever big power LTX engine GM is dropping.

Yeah the GT350 will not be the most powerful mustang for the new gen I don't think. Ford had the Boss for the track car and the GT500 for the strip and they'll do the same with GT350 and whatever they come out with next

I want them to bring back "SVT Cobra" but I doubt it now that they've licensed the GTXXX name.

Sad, they made some really good stuff. Even the SVT Contours were pretty underrated for what they were. I had one and had a blast commuting with it for about 2 years getting 28mpg beating on it and flying around corners.

I'll just always have really fond memories of experiencing the Terminators during the first releases in 2002 and how much people were just... kind of floored at the thing which was ridiculous at the time. "Wait... its a 400hp Mustang... STOCK?!"

It's said that Ford Shelby 2017 will have 700- horse power. Wow, that'll be a real Hulk!

There is no reason a flat plane crank can't be supercharged or turbocharged. The compression can easily be lowered by using a piston with a dish or shorter compression height.

The advantage of the flat plane crank is it is typically lighter than an equivalent stroke cross plane crank, this allows the engine to rev faster and to a higher rpm.

The disadvantage of a flat plane crank is they are inherently not as well balanced and smooth as a cross plane crank, its the smoothness that is the reason most v8 engines have cross plane cranks

McLaren and Ferrari both make turbocharged flat plane crank V8s FWIW

There is no reason that supercharging won't work too.
