2014 mustang v6 whine/ squeak noise.

Hey everyone I'm new here so I apologize if I posted this wrong. However my new mustang is making a noise only on start up for a few minutes and when I lightly tap the pedal. Anyone heard of this? Idk how to upload a video but I have one with the noise thanks

Sounds like a loose belt. Get in there and check deflection. If the squeak persisted AFTER bumping the gas/ warming up I'd say idler pulley.

Honestly i think a belt may be loose. It comes and goes at odd intervals so I am not sure. A belt i would imagine would be constant.

My 2013 v6 automatic, with 9,100 miles, has just started doing the same thing. I removed the serpentine belt so I know the noise is not coming from the belt, tensioner, alternator or water pump. For those that have this issue do you have an automatic or manual transmission?

I believe it's something with the exhaust manifold like squeaking until the temp is right. Headed to dealer today.

Thanks 4lexC,

Since my car still makes the noise with the serpentine belt off and with or without the A/C on (separate belt) I don't feel it's related to any of the accessories.

Transmission type doesn't appear to play a role.

You could be right, the noise from my car is most noticeable on the passenger side down by the exhaust manifold and I first suspected the 6R80 auto transmission.

I've got a warranty appointment on Saturday but my expectations are not high.

Mention that and try to hang out a couple hours and then try to replicate the noise with them there

Thanks 4lexC,

Would that be the exhaust or intake manifold?

Apparently we're not the only ones. Seems like everyone with 12-14 years have this.

Well that’s very disappointing and concerning.

My dealer ordered a new exhaust manifold today but I guess I will have them cancel that. They were very accommodating and I don’t want to waste anyone’s time.

I’m concerned it’s something in the valve train. I have now noticed that the noise is present whenever the cylinder head temperature (I have a premium model) is in the 160 – 170 deg range, not below or above. It’s very difficult to locate the noise because it happens only for a short time and at an RPM just above idle.

Read your YouTube comment and the dealer has targeted the alternator. Maybe the water pump bearings are starting to fail.

My car makes the noise with the serpentine belt off, so the alternator, water pump, belt and tensioner are not the cause. I sprayed water on the A/C belt when the noise was occurring and that made no difference. The noise is louder on the passenger side and down by the transmission and catalytic converter. I don't suspect the transmission because other owners with manuals are having the issue and mine is an auto car. Maybe I should just give into my OCD with cars issues and just drive the car.

I've owned Honda's for the last 27 years, they may be kinda boring but they don't have these weird issues. Glad I still have my 07 Accord.

Since the 3.7 v6 uses the new stretch serpentine belt technology for the A/C drive and no tensioner, I wonder if this could be the cause? To me, this noise sounds so much like a belt issue. I was able to remove the main tensioned belt for troublehsooting, but not the A/C belt. Goodyear states that stretch belts cannot be reused.

Has anyone had their A/C belt replaced in an attempt to resolve this issue?

I have not I had the drive belt replaced but not the secondary. If you do decide to let me know and I'll replace mine asap.
