Mykey

When I bought my car it only had one key, so just recently I bought another key and tried to mess with it thinking I could program the new key (which wasnt even cut) and now my only key has restrictions on it and I can't seem to go past a certain amount of volume and can't go pass 80mph, well so far that I've noticed, Big bummer. I went to ford and they were going to charge me 10 bucks to cut the key but they told me I had to take it to the dealer so they could program the new key and was going to be 100+ , is there anyway I can do it myself without taking it to the dealer and get rid of the restrictions on my key?

No. If you try with a VCM II tool, you will mess up your cars computer. Take it in and pay the amount to have a 2nd key made and have MyKey wiped.

I had this problem as well! I go to a tech school for automotive and I bought a second key and got it cut for free at a local hardware store. We used the ford IDS (VMC II) and cleared all keys and programmed them. Then it took off all the restrictions. IDK how much a dealer will charge for the programming.

whatever route you go, make 2 so you have a total of 3...this way you can make new ones yourself if you lose one.

based on my manual, if you have only one key left, you have to go to dealer for more key. the cost is $150 in 2010.

1 key=go to a dealer and lube up. Get 2 extras made so you do not have to take the pounding again if you lose one a second time.

Then, obtain a free downloadable owners manual if the car did not have one when bought. Its very useful for defining questions such as this.

I will say just get one from dealer. Once there are two keys available, owners can program additional key by themselves following direction in user manual.

dropped by acehardware store yesterday for lawn fertilizer, and find that they can make ponder keys for 70-ish, which is half the price from dealer. If you have not got your key, check them out first.

i think they just copy the key they cant make a new one. the chip would just be copied. to disable mykey youd have to have two seperate keys.
