Ford won't get rid of the V8, they did that for the start of the Mustang 2, but lost so many buyers they brought it back not so long after. They learned their lesson lol.

Not really. The probe was a V6 and was supposed to replace the mustang in the late 80's. they're overdue for something boneheaded.

I think the current V6 is fine for the base model. The 5.0 is a great engine for the GT, but I think you should have an option for a NA 5.8 in the GT and keep the SC 5.8 in the GT500 or whatever it's going to be called.
They should stick with a proven block and then continue to improve the components.

They realized their mistake before killing the Mustang, though. Now having owned both (a '95 Probe GT, and now a '13 Mustang GT), I appreciate both approaches to a sporty car. However, they are quite different animals & generally attract different buyers. Today, the Focus ST is more-or-less filling the space the Probe did in the '90's.

Spotted this 2015 in a movie. Looks like they are bringing back the fox body.

I had a 93 Probe GT and was a fun car, but not a mustang. The only reason they changed their minds was the huge outrage from mustang owners.

FWIW, the Probe was a Mazda product (same car as the mx-6, but different sheet metal). It was also marketed toward women. The male buyers were supposed to buy the Mazda (Ford owned both so it was win-win), but then it won car of the year and appealed to both. There was a huge front wheel drive craze at the time. GM actually entertained the idea of going 100% fw drive for every car in their lineup, but I am not sure the top brass at Ford was considering dropping the mustang altogether. My mom had a Probe GT, awesome fun car, but I never read anything at the time that said it was the new mustang.

<facepalm>

Yeah, the Probe was not a Mustang, and Ford only realized that after the "hey, a**holes" letter-writing campaign. I always called it my Forzda. In reality, the Probe ended up being the more performance-oriented car while the MX-6 was the more luxury-oriented one (ok, ignore the 100# difference from the glass hatch). Great car, but like I said, a different animal.

After that near-fiasco in '93, I expect Ford realizes the huge built-in customer base it has for the car.
